MPol commented about Regal Fenway Stadium 11 on Mar 23, 2022 at 9:26 am

Late last fall, I was present at both showings of the 60th Anniversary screenings of the old, original 1961 film version of West Side Story at the Regal Cinema Fenway here in Boston, MA, both with friends, and solo. The print was absolutely pristine, without a scratch or any other flaw anywhere on it, and the soundtrack was totally stellar, as well. My friends and I had a stellar evening! This is a movie that I truly savor and enjoy seeing both with or without others, especially because I end up sharing this special experience with other people, whether I know them or not, plus the old, original 1961 film version of West Side Story is my all time favorite movie, hands down.

MPol commented about Christopher Nolan’s new film Dunkirk is being projected on 70mm film in 125 theaters on Aug 23, 2018 at 2:08 am

“Dunkirk” is a good movie. I saw it last year, when it first came out, and was glad that I did. I hate the fact that so many movies nowadays go on DVD and Blu-Ray almost as soon as they come out into the theatres.

That’s a good idea. It is easier to identify the theatres. No problems so far.

How cool! Glad to hear that the cinema in Winterset, IA is re-opening. It’s a good omen for independent movie theatres, generally.

The Luna Theatre, located in Lowell, MA., is a neat little theatre, with comfortable seats and tables for snacks, etc. It’s a perfect theatre for showing great classic films, too. The place is clean, the staff helpful and courteous. I’ll be paying a second visit to this theatre this coming Sunday, and I’m all excited about it.

MPol commented about Sonoma County, CA - Drive-in movie theaters gone but not forgotten in Sonoma County on Feb 17, 2017 at 5:38 am

I remember at least a couple of occasions when my mom and dad would tell my sister and I to get into the car for an evening out for dinner and a drive-in movie, at the now-defunct Fresh Pond Drive-in Theatre, in Cambridge, MA. The movies I remember seeing in at the drive-in theatre were “The Time Machine” and “The Mouse that Roared”.

Another time, as a Senior in high school, I went to a Natick, MA drive-in movie theatre with a guy that had graduated from the same high school as I did, in the year before me. We saw “Bullit”, and one other movie.

My memory of drive-ins.

It’s heartening to learn about the recent restoration of more old Classic movie theatres that show classic films. It’s a good omen…and a real good step in the right direction, if one gets the drift.

There should be more of these movie theatres with deco marquees. I’m glad they managed to save this theatre from the wrecking ball.

MPol commented about It’s Fade to Black for Midtown’s Iconic Ziegfeld Movie Theater on Jan 23, 2016 at 3:00 pm

What?!? Oh, my god!

This is terrible news. Even though I’m not a New Yorker, I remember seeing my all time favorite film, West Side Story, back in the fall of 2006, with my cousin. I drove from Boston to NYC that morning to see it, and to see my cousin, as well. We had such a great time seeing the film West Side Story at the Ziegfeld Cinema. It looked beautiful on that long, narrow screen.

I have some fond memories, and it’s hard for me to picture this theatre going out of business.

Maybe more movie theatre staff people should follow the example of Alamo Draft House and kick chronic troublemakers out of their theatres, with no refund. Alamo Draft House, imho, has the right idea!

MPol commented about News From Loews Jersey City on Jul 3, 2015 at 7:55 pm

Imho, the more movie venues that’s available, the more choices in movies that people have to choose from. The fact that so many movie venues have gone the way of movie theatre heaven is unfortunate, because it severely restricts the kind(s) of movies that’re available for people to choose to go and see.

It would be a shame to see this grand-looking theatre either go the way of movie theatre heaven or to be restored as an over-priced concert hall.

MPol commented about Happy 45th, "The Sound Of Music" on May 23, 2015 at 11:18 am

I saw a 50th-year Anniversary re-release of “The Sound of Music” with my sister and a good friend of hers, in Iowa City, IA, when I made my annual road trip and visit to my sister in Iowa City, IA, and we all had a wonderful time. The film was brand new, and absolutely pristine, to boot. Seeing it on a great big, wide movie theatre screen added much magic and dimension to a cool film.
