I worked at this theater in the summer of 1991. Had to endure the song from Robin Hood EVERY day! Saw Terminator 2 there. Fun place to work. Free movies and popcorn. Can’t remember the owner’s name at the time, but I know he also owned a boat dealership in the area.
This theater will always be in my memory as it was where I first saw Empire Strikes Back in 1980. Packed house, line wrapped around the building. When Vader reveals his secret, everyone in the theater gasped at once. Last movie I saw here was Matrix Revolutions, which is fitting since it was a wreck of a movie.
When I lived in Long Beach, MS, I saw many big movies here. Saw Batman in 89 and the line was a mile long. The Abyss, Forest Gump, Nightmare Before Xmas, U2 Rattle nd Hum. Many memories.
I will never forget seeing the original Superman in 1979 there. A few years later in 1985, we went to see a sneak preview of Back to the Future there. It was packed and people laughed and cheered together. (the crowd stood up and cheered when Dad McFly punched out Biff) It was the best movie experience I will ever have.
I must have went to Rocky Horror at this theater every weekend in my Senior year of High School in ‘88. One of my friends dressed as Riff Raff. It was Cinema Tavern then.
I saw Field Of Dreams there on a date. My date was going to her Homecomming party at the MS Coast Collesium but she got bored and said “Let’s go see a movie.” To this day, Field Of Dreams remains my favorite movie of all time. My date and I remained friends until I left the area in ‘95.
I will always keep this theater in my thoughts because it was the theater wher I first saw Star Wars in 1977.
Used to love going to this theater in the 80s and 90s. Used to go to the Ground Round next door either before or after the movie.
