Edgewater Plaza Cinema

The Edgewater Plaza Twin Cinema was opened by Ogden Perry Theatres in 1965 in Edgewater Shopping Center. It was a white brick building with about six steps leading up to its entrance and boxoffice. It was very popular theatre, located between Biloxi and Gulfport, it operated until about 1976 and was closed and demolished.

On June 7, 1973, they had added two more screens which were located in a small theatre inside the shopping center itself, and were not as popular. This part of the theatre was later operated by United Artists Theatres until the mid-1990’s. It was closed and demolished during the remodeling of the shopping center.

Just a little correction. The outside theater was open until the mid-1990’s. I was a regular there and I even had a huge group of people with me to the opening of “Batman” in 1989 and “Batman Returns” in 1992. The inside theater was open longer. It survived the mall’s initial remodel and was open until almost 2000. My ex-wife worked at Waldenbooks just three units down from it until 1993 and it was there for quite a while after that.

WesW you are correct. I remember going to the outside theater all the time when I lived down there from 1979 – 1981. I always enjoyed going to this theater.

I saw Field Of Dreams there on a date. My date was going to her Homecomming party at the MS Coast Collesium but she got bored and said “Let’s go see a movie.” To this day, Field Of Dreams remains my favorite movie of all time. My date and I remained friends until I left the area in ‘95.
