I agree with jwmovies. The address listed is incorrect and is not in Clarksburg. It was listed that way back in the 50s and 60s. In fact, Chenoweth Drive in Bridgeport occupies the site of the drive-in. I saw Star Wars during its first run here.
The address listed is correct, but the placement on the map is not. It is located adjacent to the Meadowbrook Mall, just off the Meadowbrook Road exit (Exit 121) of I-79
The Carmike Seven closed in December 2013. It October 2014, it was announced that the location has been sold to NCG who, as of today, is in the process of remodeling and modernizing and will reopen in 2015.
Based on the address above and with confirmation from my father-in-law, the location on the map is incorrect. It was located on Cherry Hill Road which is South of Cowpens. The theater was located immediately west of Broome High School. It looks to be some kind of salvage yard now.
Based on the historical imagery from 1966, this site is now occupied by a company called New Image Company. It is either a warehouse or production facility, not sure.
While I never saw a movie here, when I was little, I’d see the large screen from I-64 and I knew I was almost at my cousin’s house. The same neon logo found on the marquee sign was on the screen. The site was turned into a Walmart, but that Walmart has moved on to another site. The old Walmart building is still there, but I’m not sure what it’s used for now.
As Marshall University Alumni (‘92, GO HERD!), I do not recall a theater at this location during my time there (1988-1992). NE corner was the Intramural Field, now tennis courts, SE corner was the Twin Towers West Residence Hall, SW corner was Holderby Residence Hall and NW corner was Hodges Residence Hall (I believe that building has been demolished as well).
At any rate, if the address is correct, this theater has been demolished since at least 1988 and most likely since 1970 since that’s the date of the oldest building currently at that intersection.
The official NRHP listings from the State of West Virginia Division of Culture & History website (http://www.wvculture.org/shpo/nr/kanawha.html) state that this theater was demolished in 1982.
I work for Pepsi and this WAS my account. Sadly, George (the owner) had to shut the doors in August and Digital claims another theater. A church is now utilizing one or all of the auditoriums and George is opening up a coffee shop in the concessions area.
It is and is now a church. I just uploaded a picture I took today. It was still operational back in 2006, but is no longer open as a theater.
