COBRA opened here on two screens, 12:30-1:30-2:30-3:30-4:30-5:30-6:30-7:30-8:30-9:30-10:30. Movies playing on more than one screen wasn’t a regular thing then.
Yeah I saw BASIC INSTINCT here and JENNIFER 8, REALITY BITES, and a late show of SEVEN on a November weeknight along with a family who had a child in a stroller. For SEVEN. At like a 10:30 show on a Thursday night.
First movie I saw here was PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES. Last, so far, was CREED II. Saw one of the F&F movies there on my birthday in house 6, whichever one opened on April 29.
The AMCs here and in Marlton were notable - eight screens were a lot in the ‘80s.
The powers that be at TLA never programmed their festivals here…there’s some kind of animosity there.
Anyhoo, remember the Inquirer ad for Lair of the White Worm at the Roxy Screening Rooms. Never went there until they picked up Grindhouse, an obviously apropos reason to finally check the house out. Eh, lousy sound, the EXIT sign blocks the screen…just like a grindhouse?
Remember seeing Eddie Murphy’s “Boomerang” here, and not being impressed. Also the Gladiator with James Marshall, and Home Alone 2. How’s that for ecleticism?

Been thinking about the 5 since I picked up 52 Pickup on DVD…this played in Theater 5, and its UltraStereo phonics remain in my mind. Theater 5 was unique – when will a B movie ever again play in a 1000-seat house?
Ah, all those movies I saw in 5: Rain Man, The Color of Money, Indy3, Future2, Rocky IV, Shy People, Cage, Freddy’s Dead, Child’s Play, Uncle Buck, Angel Heart, Black Rain, Look Who’s Talking…but not T2, which I saw at AMC Deptford 8, or Jurassic Park, at the Marlton 8…
But I’m taken back to 2 these days, where I experienced Patrick Swayziness in RoadHosue, the movie where we carded a score of crispy-banged Jersey chicks. A fun weekend that was. Gawd forbid a “minor” was exposed to Swayze Bum.
That same house, #2, held the opening night of The Fabulous Baker Boys, and there was a publicist from the studio there, worrying about the less-than-crowded crowd there. Ooh, Hollywood cares about the numbers at a Jersey plex, how exciting I admit it sort of was at the time.
2 was where Do The Right Thing wound up its second weekend after 4 couldn’t hold the mass.
Was this that twinplex in a stripmall? I think this is where I saw Jason Takes Manhattan, a split shoebox not unlike the Eric Westmont twin. This was part of the Eric chain, yes?
Why, that’s me! Yes, all those movies KingBiscuits mentioned did play at the Millside 4. Why, I don’t know, as they all played there well after their copyright date. That’s what made the theater cool in its way – it played movies nowhere else did, like the Pennsauken 5.

Saw The Cable Guy here, and there were mounds of trash piled up in front of the screen. Ick.
But back in the day I took in Dirty Dancing, Star Trek IV, Critters II, Karate Kid II..bud used to mention having a blast at Ski Patrol there.

Saw the Brady Bunch movie here while attending Rowan. Only other one I recall is Scream.
Not bad, but do remember being a student at Rowan and being carded by the teen ticket seller for Kids.

The quality is slipping already – saw Darjeeling Limited here and the sound was low and muddled, like it wasn’t even in stereo.
