Sun Theatre
In March 1944 it was reported that showman Harry R. Kitching (former manager of Fuller’s Newcastle Strand) had leased the Sun – but he soon headed off to Brisbane instead. The Artarmon directors consented to Wright’s lease being transferred to A. H. Porter that year – but legal action against Porter soon became necessary. Enter Alfred James Beszant who sold his 24 Western Suburbs Cinema circuit to Hoyts in March 1944. His retirement barely lasted 5 minutes before he started creating a whole new circuit of suburban and country cinemas. On 19th January 1945 Beszant purchased Brudenell-Wood’s shares and took over the Artarmon Picture Theatre Company for Northern Suburbs Cinemas Pty. Ltd.
