Sun Theatre
Not long after taking over the Sun, Beszant renamed it the Savoy. This was obviously a pet name - he used it for a new cinema he built at Hurstville in 1937, and the following year he renovated Enfield adding the Savoy name. (Several years after Beszant’s death his company built its last venue, the Cooma Savoy (1958) which still operates today as a twin.) It appears that even a top showman like Beszant found Artarmon a challenge. The company decided it would be in the best interest of shareholders to sell. On 28 October 1949 Noel Jack Bevan and his wife Sylvia took over, purchasing the cinema plant and fittings for £10,700. Beszant died six months later.
