Sun Theatre
(Sun site in 2023) Following Craven’s departure, Mr. E. Doyle rented the cinema at £20 per week in early 1940, transferring his lease to A. G. Wynne a year later. That arrangement proved unsatisfactory and a new lease was soon signed with Clarence D. Wright of Urban Theatres Pty. Ltd. starting 16th August 1941, commencing at £12 per week. During 1942 a dispute arose over water leaks in the bio box roof area with manager Stevenson complaining to the Chief Secretary’s Department. By 1943 tenant rent payments were in arrears, and the company looked around for someone to buy the theater. Negotiations with Broadway Theatres, Greater Union and Hoyts proved fruitless.
