Liberty Theatre
From mid-1934 Blue Mountains Amusements took on Leura again, but did not screen for the three years of their lease, making the hall available just for non-film use. General Manager Peter Dawson explained that this situation was just to keep opposition exhibitors away so as not to detract from their Katoomba venues. However, following the opening of their new Savoy theater, while the Empire was being rebuilt as the Embassy, the company let their Masonic Hall lease lapse in mid-1937. This allowed Reginald Thornton Golby - who had been servicing smaller mountain towns for several years – to move in and expand his operations into Leura.
