Young ‘copper-headed’ former drummer John Patrick O’Callaghan served as publicist on the project to launch the Regent and its first attraction. He soon moved to Melbourne to work on the Regent and Plaza openings for the company. His radio legend son Gary was born there in 1933. ‘Jack’ served Hoyts for 43 years – the last 25 of them, up until his 1969 retirement, were spent as Sydney City Circuit Supervisor.
