Regent Theatre
Guests on opening night received a 24 page souvenir program. It contained a mixture of advertisements and effusive enthusiasm about the grandiosity of it all. Significant pages are reproduced in the following illustrations. The front cover shown here is of thick paper embossed and colored to appear like leather. The Regent was licensed 30th March 1928 for 2297 persons (this may have included ‘standing room’ - which was allowed at cinemas when conditions were suitable). Later about 50 seats seem to have been lost when the proscenium was brought forward for CinemaScope in 1953. By 1968 the ‘official’ capacity was listed as 2169.
