Regent Theatre
On 24th November 1928 three Western Electric technicians arrived in Sydney from the USA, to set up a branch of the company: Patchen Jones (General Manager), Allen McLean (Chief Engineer) and C. A. Read (Asst. Engineer). Five days later another installation expert arrived – Arthur W. Edmunds – along with sound equipment needed to fit out Hoyts Regent, Union Theatres’ Lyceum and the Carroll-Musgrave Prince Edward. Below left: Through November and early December Hoyts were widely advertising their early January opening. Below right: One of the Regent projectors in late December, ready for sound presentation.
