Regent Theatre
Following the NYC opening of “The Jazz Singer” 6th October 1927, talk of the ‘talkies’ spread across the USA - and around the world. In Australia, both Hoyts and Union Theatres gradually came to realize they must move to sound. By 24th October 1928 there was press speculation that the Regent would have talking pictures in early January 1929. This was confirmed on 9th November 1928 by F. W. Thring Managing Director of Hoyts Theatres Limited, in conjunction with this full page newspaper advertisement specifying an opening the first week in January.
