another great THX cinema gone to the dogs
what was the total sound system spec THX install and the testing how long did all the install take , is any pictures or video, i mean nasa has bundles of video , so THX is historic any video ?
how was each part of the stage of the install actually tested and speakers installed and retested for the THX install ?
was there any test audience tested with THX wings trailer ? or was it only tested on Tom Holman or other engineers ?
i like how this THX cinema is 2,100 seats how many kw was each amp and max acoustical watts in the THX auditorium ?
projectionist at this site and when opened on premiere night with most of 12 screens operating , four main larger screens running
lethal weapon 4 SR-D ( dts hardly used expect test print extracts backdraft , far way , born on 4th july ) other films armageddon SR-D , saving private ryan SR-D , and i and another projectionist , we took actual “ turns of titanic SR-D ” the cake platter motor circuit card failed and everyone standing around wondering how to get titanic running as the audience was coming in .
top cake platter circuit card is okay middle one okay its the print that is on the bottom platter ?
someone suggested turning the patter winding off the film to projector by hand which had to be tuned and maintained at certain speed so as not to have the film snapping breaking .
so i and girl projectionist we got on the floor crossed our legs and started turning the platter slowly get the speed up and then kept doing that , taking , turns for about around 3hrs 25mins , ads and trailers , Dolby trailer and titanic . and no one in the audience knew it was actually being projected by hand .
it seems uncertain again what is going on with this derelict cinema ? not that i care its closed down so . it seems pigeons have taken residence again so least the pigeons have a home which is positive thinking mind you , i like pigeons
its been given green light as insider tells me . i’ll have more exclusive on this once i know .
at least the site now is going to be converted into flats . the facial front will remain intact from pictures i seen .
guess now the pigeons will have to vacate
update word is abc is being presently gutted as insider tells me .
odoen formally owned abc is also now in green light for flat renovation which maybe completed by 2025/26
at least the old cinema building won’t be totally demolished as once planed .
the facial for grand gaumont odeon will remain intact as new lobby for the new flats
guess the pigeons now will have to vacate
^ squatters as i doubt any of those that go around videoing achieving these cinemas would do that .
E.T. it appears in end credits of staying alive , in the background
next the skips to throw that cineworld sign and that liemax superscreen into the rubbish skip like, empire cinemas did to the only THX cinema in the uk.
that cinema looks cool with the techicolour light show .
wow looks like cinerama curve and nice light show with tabs
Couldn’t care less about empire 1 anymore its gone turned into a rubbish Liemax video screen tiny screen.
I read elsewhere this one of few that had CDS cinema digital sound, format installed and at warner village in the same area.
I read elsewhere this was one of few in UK that had CDS cinema digital sound, format.
Since this new odeon bh2 opened with the closing of the nine screens at westover road operated by odeon that took ownership of ABC, total of nine screens, over 10 screens at the new bh2, makes no logical sense. The more things change. The more they stay and remain the same.
The bh2 is not all that great. The larger seating in one of the screens now looks jaded with fake plastic leather peeling off the seats.
Auditoriums have a sharp echo reverb located at the front of one of the auditoriums I tested in screen 6 which is a smaller screen. The echo pinged between two hardboard surfaces that had 1mm black cloth. Further along the walls where the absorbent was bit more thicker reduced the echo.
I placed my camera phone at front of screen 6 and clapped my hand while walking up the stairs and back down again. On replaying the video at home I was able to tell this isn’t a good sounding odeon bh2, that it has all been hyped up for.
The isense screen 10, I’ve not fully tested it for echo at the front. I did one time while seated in the first middle row front (hard to say if its a circle?) I clapped my hand and guessed about around 1.4s or so before the clapping sound decayed.
The sub bass seems, well meh, I felt light-years better at the CIC High Wycombe THX or the CIC Empire Leicester Square, THX. The sub bass has a depth but nowhere near or close to the THX status.
The overhead surrounds look tacky with dangling them from the ceiling makes dolby atmos look like a discotheque of the 1970’s. Its tacky to just have speakers in large room, larger than homes and they couldn’t conceal hide them flush in the ceiling.
I walked around the auditorium to see what a customer is getting for the odd few million per screen?
The side back surrounds just hang out from the side and back walls looks tacky and they ain’t angled or titled downwards would sound dreadful if sat at the back of the auditorium. Long listening experience. Anyone sat at back row would hear the back surround or would only hear that specific speaker/channel with dolby labs atmos, pan-though and the rest of the back surrounds would sound distant. cos again odeon rush it and don’t think it through? They should have kept the back row seating with at least 3 rows of seating not applied that way they’d be some space for the back surrounds to be heard when seated at the back row.
Does the isense atmos have five screen? From seeing one of the construction pictures makes it appear so from the scaffolding behind the screen thou they could be sub bass in the Lc Rc position? I had peek behind the screen thou not good enough to see with the touch if any subs was laying on the floor which is usually typical. I didn’t see any so I have to assume the subs are located on the scaffolding stage with LCR. Next time, I ng have a more thorough look cos, I like to know where speakers are located, if I was paying to watch and listen I like to know?
So how does the isense atmos sound, really? My honest really?
It sounds dreadful!I not really been able to localize any decent sound effects, yet with seeing three movies or hard-drives downloads?, Yet. The whole playback sounds DEAFENING and anyone that doesn’t have idea that this can lead to hearing issues. I have on all three occasions had to wear my earplugs.
The HF horns if they are using a three-way would be mid/high HF is sheer DEAFENING!! From what I can see on the SPL dB on the phone app, thou I prefer to use my Realistic analogue SPL, if I can remember to take it with me next time? I’m almost certain odeon are not complying with 85dbA peak as mids and highs are so close to hurting my ears.
The whole odeon policy of showing its movie/hard-drive video projector wall. Is lousy. I have been to odeon Leicester Square and never been once impressed with 1993 Last Action Hero, 70mm or with digital projection, Leatherheads.
The pre-show starts with looped music that sounds like it belongs on youtube under, AMSR. What is that trying to do brainwash or hypnotize me? Cos it ain’t working.
It’s all auto-sourness-mated system with projection on one level floor with bundle of Crown amplifiers and I think nec or barco projector and Dolby CP850 that is geared up for I think almost the full atmos 64 channels or maybe under, not that it matters cos the atmos re-recording/producer/director mixes ain’t all that good. Lifelike, yeah sure it is.
Movies seen so far.
fantastic beasts 2 (2018) DEAFENING!
no time to die (2021) DEAFENING!
eternals (2021) DEAFENING!
I actually walked out of disney marvel ‘eternals’ as the atmos mix of an london earthquake scene actually offended me. Is this it? is this all the atmos can do for an earthquake scene besides being too DEAFENING loud on mid/high HF horns. Is that all the LFE.1 bass it can do? I felt better with THX and Sensurround and I’m paying £16.00 pounds for this? I just walked right out of the movie after 15 so minutes and looked around the other screens playing or empty to see what I actually get for £16.00.
“My colleagues (friends) believe they are wasting their time with me.”
matrix 4? In dolby DEAFNESS. They’d have to drug me and drag me to see that in decemeber. I will be wearing Ear Defenders and would take my camera gear DLSR get better pictures and this, this would be the last time as its waste of £16.00 and no THX, well at least the speaker PA system is JBL.
The seats at Empire 1 where rocker seats. The seats at high wycombe maybe same company make not same model the seat back didn’t recline which made it less comfy.
Andy good news yet on when it will be stripped out all the seats thrown into the skip along with projection and sound system thrown in the skip with wrecking ball and make way for practical use for the homeless as cinema is non-essential. Just my 1 pence. (wink)
wrecking ball for this cinema coming soon to a youtube-cinema small screen.
I don#t see need to travel to Pictureville that is longer distance that Empire Leicester Square, that had a THX baffle wall. Does Pictureville have one? I don’t think so. Does it have legit THX I don’t think so. I may as well stay at home with legit unofficial commencal cinema THX and I can go to a THX cinema at anytime in the day or week as I feel fit and is only few meters travel walking distance.
cinema has allowed itself to be dragged down to home cinema grade and now it is same tech in a home cinema as it is at a video-cinema cos it ain’t no longer cinema. Anyway I rather watch a David Attenborough, nature documentary without the ear defaning dolby atmos that sounds lousy in cinema as it does in the home. atmos is so fake. We most all, know how it works and hasn’t improved movies one single bit other than deafening loud and so unnatural.
Let video-cinema fade away I won’t miss a single pixel of it.
so when is this cinema gonna be demolished into rubble to make way for new homes for the homeless as cinema is non-essential.
Does cineworld still Liemaxing to the public as well as consumer rubbish Liemax for home cinema.
Okay now lets Roast imax corp, sound department and mixers that lie with LIEMAX sound mixes cos I believe along with stop the fomo, is correct and I never seen a Liemax myself only an imax that is rubbish with fake sub bass that only uses it from the fullrange 6ch. I never liked imax and certainly do not like Liemax. Empire 1 was perfect with JBL THX of the original 89 install.
Couldn’t care less about, disney or its star wars.
Now Warner Bros, what I find interesting is the 70mm Dolby Megasound on few movies, Wolfen, Superman II, Altered States,Outland.
Slowly cinemas going bust. Best news in years. I used to like cinema since 2013 Empire 1 was killed. Glad cinemas are all going bust now cos they can’t fill up these huge auditoriums.
Home cinema is the future.
Well best news I have read. Empire 1 is long gone and I’m glad cinemas futures are bleak I couldn’t care less. Cinema in uk was dead when Empire 1 was killed by empire cinemas.
Well I have no time to die, care for any bond movie or any movie. I hope imax liemax goes bust.
Does this cinema even have THX anymore?… Oh just read lost its THX oh well no point ever going to this place if it doesn’t have serious THX sound system.
Is this place ever gonna hide all those speakers dangling from the ceiling looks so tacky and cheap I never liked odeon leicester square has worst sightline worst sound worst feel of the sound worst seating and totally overrated and overpriced for rich people who must have worst flat screen tv at home with a soundbar
