This was not in Minnetonka but in St. Louis Park. It was small but did good business.

The Shelard Park was a 5 plex when it closed in 2000. It was the city office and when the city office left it still took care of the GC ads for cities.

The Northtown closed with 4 screens in 1998. I am not sure when the 4th screen was added but probably the mid 70’s.

It had 1 dolby in cinema 3 and after Southtown closed got the kintex for cinema 4. Cinema 3 had 325 seats and the other 3 each had right around 300. It still had the old red and white GC seats to the end. It was suggested when Southtown closed to send the seats there but it was shot down.

In 1996 a new 14 plex was planned to be built in the mall over buy Best Buy. After opening Northtown 4 was to be closed because it was only on a year to year lease. The deal on the new 14 plex fell apart and lost the lease on the old one.

It might have closed in 2000 but it wasn’t GCC then. When GCC closed it most of the concession stand went to Southtown as did some of the equipment.

There is some wrong information about General Cinema. They were not a division of Pepsi. They owned General Cinema Bottlers which was the largest bottler of Pepsi which was their 40 % of Pepsi. In 1988 they sold GC Bottlers to Pepsi for $ 1.3 Billion.

General Cinema did not file for bancruptcy in the ‘80. It was in 2000. They also were not bought by Hoyts. They were bought by AMC in 2002. They did have a joint ops with Hoyts in South America that was called Hoyts General Cinema but that was sold.

It’s pretty sad that there are those who think it’s more important to tear down a good theatre for a bunch of weeds or parking lots.

I haven’t been there since probably 2000 and have no plans of ever going back but I do have friends that go there if they have to. I talk to them after finding out they went there the first question I ask is if thew finally got the movie on the screen and so far have never been told yes.

This was not owned by Carmike. I know because when I was movie closer to the cabin I applied at Carmike at Oakwood Mall and that was in ‘96.

I I was a manager at GCC and when my uncle was there he asked me how his movie ended and told me the story. As a result when I moved closer I wanted the first time to cine 3 as it was called then to be the first showing of the day. It was at least close to being on the screen but I got stuck to the floor because it was so sticky and should have been clean for the first show of the day. When I first started going there I didn’t anything about it to friends I went with until they started saying things about it they I would and point out other problems. I didn’t say anything to friends at first because maybe my standards are to high but they are not. There are basic things any movie theater should be able to do which includes getting the movie on the screen and having the sound work not to mention being clean so your feet don’t get stuck to the floor.

When I was at GC it was like Mike Rogers said we had exchange tickets so they could come back but in my uncles case when he asked for a refund he was told they couldn’t because the money was already deposited.

This was converted to a dinner theatre shortly after Cine Magic 7 opened and stayed in business about 3 years after that. One of the former employees and remodeling it a bit. I haven’t been to Menonomonie for a few months but had heard it was suppose to reopen in Oct but I don’t know if it did or not.

This theatre is already listed. It is still closed but attempts are being made to reopen it. It was given to the childrens museum. It may take to much to repair but hopefully it can reopen.

Any pics of the waterfall or fish pond/ wishing well in the lobby? It sound like the Mann/GCC Southtown in Bloomington,Mn. which also had a waterfall/wishing well in the lobby.

I was just looking at the opening info and it is not correct. It did not open in 2000. I don’t know for sure but have heard it opened in 1953 as Cine 3. It is built on the old drive in. It was owned by a husband and wife and when they retired they sold it and I’m told that was around 1995. In 1998 they started to expand it and that is when it became Lake 7.

The opening also says it has a nice size lobby but I don’t know what one is being referred to because that is a small lobby.

No my uncle didn’t get a refund. They refused. I have been there a few times and was always poor quality. The last time they couldn’t even get the movie on the screen correctly.I haven’t been there in years because the quality is so poor. I will go 40-50 miles away or more to see a movie but not Amateur 7 Theatres.

I do know people who go there once in a while. When they tell me about it I always say something to the effect of You Went To Amateur 7. They always say they are sorry or didn’t have time to go to a good theatre and tell me about the poor quality this time around.

bigred89 commented about Bayshore Cinema on Aug 16, 2010 at 7:48 am

There is a Bayshore Cinema that was owned by General Cinema. It was in Sarasota. Cinema Tour has is listed as Hwy 41 in Sarasota which leads me to believe this is the same one.

It is not listed on cinema treasures under General Cinema. It might still be listed because I have noticed that some theatres have the chain as unknown even though it lists the chain in the post and some times only had one chain that ever owned it.

If it is it opened in 1960 and close in 1991 and it was a twin. I don’t know if it opened as a single or not. Cinema tour also has an AKA as North Train Cinema.

bigred89 commented about Hudson Cinema 12 on Jul 22, 2010 at 8:39 pm

I don’t know much about this one but I do know it replace the Hudson Cinema 4. The cinema was a dump, very small and poorly run. I think they opened this as the Hudson 9 and expanded to 12. I have never been to this one but I don’t get to Hudson much anymore.

CEC has one other theater in Wis in Rice Lake. The quality there is so bad that your lucky if they can get the movie on the screen. Hopefully this one has improved.

bigred89 commented about Markland Mall Cinemas on May 11, 2010 at 6:42 am

This is not the same theatre that opened as Cinema 1-2. This one opened under United Artist. They ran it until the fall of 1990 when Goodrich. In the spring of 1991 Kerasotes took over when it reopened after splitting the big theatre. The big theatre had around 850 seats before the split and after it there were 3 theatres.

When UA sold it there were 2 others included. I know one was in Lafayette and I think it was the Market Square Theatre. I’m not sure but the other might have been the Muncie Mall. I know that with the sale UA had sold the last of their theatres in Indiana. They didn’t return for a few years.

The cinema 1-2 opened in 1968. It was a bit before my time but I’m told it only lasted a year or so and I think it was on the other side of the mall.
