Starting next week the Imax theater will be closed for remodeling and will reopen soon with all the bells and whistles of modern laser imax screens in order to be on par with the Dolby auditorium which is doing great business at this theater. Hopefully they fix the aspect ratio issue when it comes to flat movies on the scope screen. I noticed that during my showing of Angel has fallen they windowboxed the Goldfinch trailer which was shot flat. It kinda looks tiny compared to flat trailers on the imax screen. Several movies will crowd the Dolby screen this weekend before Ad Astra comes out. It’s been 10 years since Rockaway got digital projectors and the imax screen, which was heavily promoted with the release of Avatar, a movie that has not aged well in the age of superheroes.
It was one of its most popular theatres in the entire circuit. I wish they had sold it to Cinemark which took over the hazlet location or even Regal which is building a new movie theater where the amboy cinemas used to be. The owners of National Amusements will merge CBS with Viacom once again later this year in order to compete against the rise of streaming while box office slowly dies down.
Just saw aforementioned movie in imax and noticed the projection improved a bit yet the audio is showing it’s age. Seats are a little sticky yet the movie was good. I saw the tenet teaser before this movie but no birds of prey trailer which I can find easily online on Twitter. Wb has been doing great with showing teasers only in cinemas and not online or on tv. This isn’t the first time it has happened and it’s quite popular.
Looks like It might be the last Imax movie since Ad Astra is not showing in imax only dolby..maybe they’ll start renovating the theater and put in new seats an updated sound system and laser projection. I plan on seeing the clown movie this weekend even though it doesn’t fill up the screen but the trailers some of them do. The Imax is kinda outdated compared with newer imax systems as Dolby still dominates at this theater with the vibrating recliners and surround sound and great picture despite a few movies that are cropped from flat ratio as the screen is scope.
Saw on Friday night the peanut butter falcon and it was not that crowded the movie was enjoyable and the presentation was pretty good for a low budget movie. I heard that the 4k Dolby of the matrix is great even though I own it on streaming 4k not to mention the original dvd and seeing it in 35mm in Wayne.
Just saw the joker trailer and at the end it says it’s coming out in Imax, Dolby Cinema, and 70mm film. Could this movie be shown in 70mm imax or just laser imax? I know a bunch of the AMC imaxes will have to be renovated before advance tickets go on sale as It Chapter 2 might be the last imax release to be shown in the 10 year old projectors.
How about the 35mm projectors? I know that edgewater was one of the first if not the last to use digital projection during the late 90s and early 2000s. Ocean’s 11 was the first film to be shown digitally via technicolor for this theater and it proved to be a hit so they kept the projectors until it was closed. Wonder if someone bought the X Plus seats with atmos sound too…before the theater was demolished to make room for more houses…
i wonder with the new joker trailer coming out on wed, if tickets will go on sale for this movie in 70mm. The film will premiere in Venice on Saturday and people in the business say that this movie will make around $60-90 million on opening weekend. The film is rated R so it might draw away young kids wanting to see a darker version of the famed villain.

Went to see Ready or Not in theater #11 and the audio here is better as well as the picture which was kinda dark but very sharp. Audience was well behaved and enjoyed the film. Can’t believe they cut back on morning showtimes as this month is usually slow for moviegoing as people get ready for back to school sales and summer is almost over. No wonder why AMC stock is not doing well as moviegoing is still down from last year despite some good films and increased prices.

The opening of this theater has caused the Westfield theater to close down besides the expiring lease.
Looks like Joker will come out in regular, IMAX and dolby at this theater as said in the trailer online. Maybe even prime.

One of the moviegoers that visited this theater had measles and also visited other landmarks around the LA area, including disneyland and others.
