No Tinseltoes,I am not, I have seen that on my page and some others on C.T. sites. And Bway I agree why those movies were rated X.Also that the same photo that is posted in an earlier post on this page.
Thanks John, Mike read a post on somepage about Loews having a no X rated policy,I have talked about it before,or a non porn policy, I do not remember even calling it “Porn” back then it was just an'X' RATED MOVIE.A movie can be rated “x” for many reasons not including SEX.We did not show any “SNUFF MOVIES” that were Rated X.And anyway they were better than the KUNG FU" Crap we used to show every now and then to have something on the screen.
Warren is right the 5th.Ave theatre was built later and near Church Street on 5th of course,it was were the Fifth Third Bank Building is now. there were about 20 theatres over time on about a three block area of downtown Nashville. The 5th.Avenue Theatre closed in 1960.The “New” PRINCESS/CRESCENT theatre opened in 1951 was right around the corner at 415 Church Street, right next to were Nashvilles first “SKYSCRAPER” the L&C Tower was built and opened in 1955.The L&C Tower still stands at 31 stories.
True Mike, in all the photos I have seen of the CRESCENT sign you could not see the LOEWS NEON during the day if you did not know it was there you would not know it,I remember that I had to turn on I think it was 26 breakers to turn on all the signage and outside lights. I have seen a video of Church street when the sign was being turned of for the night, it when off in stages as you know not all the lights came on or off at the same time.I wonder if it was me turning them off in that clip.May have been I did it many, many times. Now back to the Allen Theatre.
Some confusion here, there was an Elite theatre on 5th Ave North, near the Arcade in the 20’s but it was downtown. The address on the header here says Monroe St.which at that time was out from town near Fisk University an African American school,I believe Jack Courseys photo is the Monroe street theater which may have had the same name.
BMT ASSOCIATES LLC is located at this address now,I bet they are doing the redevelopment of this theatre and shopping center.I guess BMT stands for Belle Meade Theatre.
Sometimes the google maps will tell you what is at that address now,but of course it does not in this case. And a SiliconSam states sometimes the address change anyway.
Ron I believe the building they are housed in has been there since 1890 as a town hall sort of place.I agree that they did not show movies back then,it just looks good in their advertising.I believe that this was stated in Geralds post above.
Yes spectrum, the google maps lists United Steelworkers (USN) at this address. From Chucks 1983 photo looks as if it was a church at that time.

Thanks Joe,no wonder I do not remember it as I was born just a month before it closed. Thanks again for the info.
Kino means Cinema or Theatre in that part of the world.
Sounds like my kind of place maybe not a “MOVIE PALACE” but cool in another way. Also it has a great name and location.

Thats right Bob, or maybe you saw the movies for free for staying in the Motel.Cross promotion I believe they used to call it.

Nice web-site.
Nice photo.
Do not see the drive-in in the map but their website is still up,must still be open.
In 2007 it housed a church.
