Just checked the Google map on this address it shows the Madison Theatre location, you can still see the Madison Square Theatre behind the Madison Square Shopping Center. Both theatres are very close in location.
The seating count on this theatre is not correct it is listed as 1016 this theatre was not that big, that maybe the seating for the Madison Theatre a different theatre on Gallitin Pike, that building is still standing also. The Madison Square Theatre was more in the 700 seat range with no balcony.Built in 1969,I have read elsewere that Loews built this theatre but I believe it was just leased by Loews. The Loews Melrose had 1000 seats including the balcony and was much larger than this house. The headed on this theatre is only about half correct,it it being confused with the older Madison Theatre nearby, this one was in the back of the Madison Squuare Shopping Center.
According to the artical about the fire at the Loews Vendome this theatre was to second one built in Nashville.Built in 1887.Mostly made of wood. The Bijou was Nashvilles first theatre.
Theres an Art to changing a marquee as I am sure you know, I had a few guys just do it on their own and they would get all the letters out for the new movie without thinking about the letters that were already on the sign and have to carry all the extra letters back to storage that was always good for a laugh. They did better the next time, after I told them to start in the middle they learned how to do it pretty quick. Now back to the Cinema Endicott………..
Yeah Mike he and his wife are buried at his home The Hermitage right outside of Nashville, no big deal about the drive-in I will see what I can find out.Now back to the Canyon Drive-in.
A.K.A. Loews Northgate.
Great photo ken mc I quess every city had a least 1 Woolworths also.
Just noticed on the header under chain it says unknown? Loews built and operated this theatre for many, many years, and the chain is unknown!
According to the March 2010 photo the Marquee still says Loews State, thats pretty wild.Maybe this theatre can be rehabed.
Looks like its still a parking lot.

As state in Bansheee,s post of June 25,2009 Google maps show the entire shopping center and parking lot gone down to bare dirt, strange.

This theatre I believe was 2 blocks east of the Bijou Theatre Center, any more info would be great.
