Brian: I couldn’t reach you via email on your CT profile page nor on the Marion Theatre website so decided to address you via CT. Could you tell me the current status of the theatre? I plan to be in Ocala in late March and would like a tour, if possible. Thank you. If I don’t read a post from you by the weekend, I will call the theatre number given on the website.
I thought I heard that he would not be present at the Golden Globes tonight due to his family tragedy. I see on your profile page that you are in NJ and John grew up in NJ. Do you know him personally?
Justin: Do you think John and Kelly will continue their support of the Marion? And again, does anyone know the current status of this theatre’s restoration/renovation. Is the theatre open? I have read this theatre originally had 1,000 seats and now it has 400 so that would be a renovation, not a restoration of a fine example of the art deco era.
Can anyone tell me the current status of the Marion Theatre? A friend of mine recently told me that it was “boarded up” last winter when he was there having dinner in downtown Ocala.
As most of us know, John Travolta contributed to the restoration of this theatre in downtown Ocala. Thank you John and CT extends their condolences to you and to Kelly on the loss of your son, Jett.
I have 2 b/w photos of the Grand sent to me via email from a man in Hawaii who used to live in Westfield. If anyone is interested in seeing them, I am interested in sharing them.
Yeah, and I guess the fact that the sun is shining and there is no snow in sight makes it a nice photo for local residents of Auburn NY. One of my wishes for ‘09 is to see this theatre restored or on its way to restoration!
It will be interesting to see what the current status of the Rogers is as I was not told anything about continued restoration plans nor about “a book of experiences” contributed above by Ross Melnick.
I have contacted a source in Shelby NC and next Wednesday will be given a tour of the Rogers. Through my source I have learned that the theatre seats have been removed.
Jules: Perhaps you can give us some insight since your grandfather owned the Paramount at one time why this theatre was allowed to be demolished as it was a magnificant structure! A theatre similar to the Paramount was the Palace in Youngstown Ohio, but sadly it was also demolished.
Also this theatre had a marquee different than the awning type marquee that is present today, but I believe the City of Watkins Glen wouldn’t allow the former marquee to extend so many feet from the curb and the street. Perhaps someone who lives in WG can explain further explain this decision. I would love to see a photo of what the former or original marquee looked like.
I may have touched on this before, but I was not aware that this theatre was twinned. I visited the Glen several years ago and it was not twinned at that time.

Bloo: Again, I say someone should approach Mike Yeager of Mid America Enterprises and see if he would be interested!! He is in Effingham!
Correction: aren’t still in place
Too bad that the original marquees are still in place.

I agree with a Ho! Ho! Ho! :)

This is how the Erie Playhouse should still look, imo!
And to think this theatre was the only atmospheric built by Rapp and Rapp. The Warner in Erie PA is a Rapp and Rapp.

Warren: Nice photos…thanks!
“it has not been split”…..music to my ears..thanks, Peter!
Why are they “saving” the “front wall”?

Jasn: Here is a site that will show you a few Grand photos along with some other area former theatres.

Still hoping!
And is this theatre just “closed”?
Any photos?
