Travolta steps up for film causes
OCALA, FL — For the opening of his new film ‘WILD HOGS’ John Travolta wanted to do something to help his community. There were over 200 tickets sold to a VIP event at Club Blue adjacent to the Hollywood 16 theaters in Ocala, Florida. Proceeds went to the Florida Tornado Victims, The Historic Marion Theatre, and to the Film Commission of real Florida.
John Travolta presented a check to Mayor Max Pullen, of Lady Lake Florida, for $15,000 from the event and to top it off he also matched it with a personal check for $15,000. Proceeds also went to help restore the historic Marion Theatre in downtown Ocala. The building has been under construction since October of 2006 and is slated to finish June of 2007. This was a wonderful event and it helped causes that the Travoltas are passionate about.
Congratulations!

This past weekend, I went to see “Wild Hogs”. This movie has brought back John Travolta’s career from the dead, and guarantees him a good sequel. Hopefully there won’t be any more bad weather to delay the restoration of that historic theater in the area affected by the recent tornadoes in Ocala, Florida. When I read this story upon checking out this website, I was happy to read that Mr. Travolta, although from Jersey, premiered his film for a cause, which is quite rare in most Hollywood premieres these days. Let’s hope it stays that way with future VIP events and other gala events.
John Travolta career has never been dead???????? Were the hell did that come from………….
I mean John Travolta’s films have been stinkers lately, not until WIld Hogs came out. Same goes for the three other co-stars.
Ahem, Justin, Pulp Fiction brought back Travolta from the dead.
You’re right.
Heartiest congratulations to JOHN TRAVOLTA for his generousity in supporting a theater that presents his trade.
It’s about time that many more film stars start NOW and donate towards the SINGLE SCREEN THEATERS across the country. These owners are desparately trying to keep the lights on “in the name of Hollywood” and what they are producing.
Donations are tax deductible and that makes good sense and even better public relations between the movie-going public who can make and break the Hollywood system.
“Hello Hollywood… is anyone listening???” Naaaah!
Can anyone tell me the current status of the Marion Theatre? A friend of mine recently told me that it was “boarded up” last winter when he was there having dinner in downtown Ocala.
This was before John Travolta’s son died.
Justin: Do you think John and Kelly will continue their support of the Marion? And again, does anyone know the current status of this theatre’s restoration/renovation. Is the theatre open? I have read this theatre originally had 1,000 seats and now it has 400 so that would be a renovation, not a restoration of a fine example of the art deco era.
I’m not sure, Patsy. John’s pretty busy tonight going to the Golden Globes, and I’m not sure of Kelly.
I thought I heard that he would not be present at the Golden Globes tonight due to his family tragedy. I see on your profile page that you are in NJ and John grew up in NJ. Do you know him personally?
nope.
