15 years ago was the last time that General Cinema ran this theater. When AMC bought the bankrupt chain, they installed some digital projectors, raised prices, changed the soda from pepsi to coke, and retrofitted a large auditorium to a digital imax, yet left some parts unchanged.

Looks like id4 resurgence will be playing in digital imax. Wonder if suicide squad will be in 2k imax 3d or perhaps they’ll wait until fall when Sully comes out in laser imax.

Looks like the imax is closed for the weekend, perhaps renovations?

more than 10 years ago this theater closed down and was demolished by the time the AMC at GSP opened. What a shame, since I always went to its sister theater more often than this place. It wasn’t better kept like the tenplex and sometimes had carry over movies from Route 4 as well as new movies that played at this theater that weren’t as popular as the Tenplex. Had AMC kept this place open it would’ve been a perfect venue for IMAX, AMC Prime, et al.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Loews Paramus Route 4 Tenplex on Jun 1, 2016 at 11:40 am

In 1981, Coate, when RKO merged with Stanley Warner and took over operations. When Cineplex Odeon took over in 1987, they expanded to ten screens and stayed that way through the Loews Cineplex and AMC eras until it was closed so that its successor the AMC Garden State 16 opened more than 9 years ago. Digital surround sound was installed around the time that Jurassic Park opened and digital projection premiered in Paramus with the Phantom Menace in late 1999. The last time I went to this theater, for X-Men in the summer of 2000, the theater was very run down from the last time i visited in the mid to late 90s. I never went to the triplex as that wasn’t as popular as this theater.

They need to renovate this place badly. This theater, along with its sister theaters in NYC that have stadium seating that were built before the AMC Loews merger, were one of the last such places to be built before Loews Cineplex went Chapter 11 and was taken over by private equity firms.

The Loews 34th street along with its sister theater Kips Bay were the second to last modern day Loews stadium seating theaters to be built and not renovated; the E Walk after Regal took over, they renovated the theaters and put in an RPX screen with reclining seats and reserved seating.

Do they still have a imax light show before the movie? I remember when I went to see Across the sea of time they had such a thing. After that, they had a guy, perhaps an usher, announcing the movie and then they showed a brief film showing mr. big screen that ended with a flyover of New York City.

Very interesting. This theater in its final years didn’t do as well as the Preakness and the loews/sony/amc wayne theater.

As of a few weeks ago, recliner seats and reserved seating are now in this theater.

When the theater first opened it was a technological marvel with all the bells and whistles of a modern multiplex. Nowadays it’s thriving but not doing as much business as the Times Square theaters. Still a good place to hold East Coast premieres now that the Ziegfeld is closed.

It’s too much. Many years ago, there were more times square cinemas than broadway theaters. Fast forward to today, and broadway is thriving while the box office is dying.

The mall in which the theater was in was featured in Volcano from 1997 in which the entire building gets destroyed by lava.

I think Rouge One will be Dolby AMC. I’ve seen commercials with the Dolby cinema at AMC logo below either Now playing or coming soon.

This theater opened in 1998/1999 ish. Id like to see this theater get the RPX treatment like its sister theater right across the delaware river in Easton.

Too bad there’s no theater in NJ that shows classic movies only. The Rosebud in Westwood closed down awhile ago.

They should probably update it and be more like the Empire as well as 84th street. I heard that people walking from Empire to this theater will be in for a treat soon…https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=newssearch&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiS3tKep9_MAhWDWz4KHXFgCTMQqQIIHCgAMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fnymag.com%2Fdaily%2Fintelligencer%2F2016%2F05%2Fbroadway-pedestrian-plazas-getting-a-makeover.html&usg=AFQjCNFxuSRO4pvrUYGnnEFve_IXyj5UNQ&sig2=Dd3uFZTBSbNwzVkDNhvmJA&bvm=bv.122129774,d.cWw

Dolby is much sharper than digital imax. Most people know Dolby for audio than video but that will change as more 4ktvs will support Dolby Vision.
