The header says this drive-in opened May 18,1950, sounds like a pretty exact date to me.Your opening date is only 5 years off if this date is correct.Maybe you should be more careful Bob.
More History:This theatre was built right across Church Street from the famous MAXWELL HOUSE HOTEL which served as a hospital before it was completly build during the Civil War.In 1907 Teddy Rosevelt stayed at this hotel and was served some coffee marketed as Maxwell House Coffee, he said it was “Good to the last drop”,that is where they got their famous slogan. The hotel burned down Christmas Day 1961, and was latter replaced by a bank building known then as Third National Bank. We would make our deposits in the night drop right across the street from the theatre.A plaque is located on the Arcade Alley side of the building talking about the Maxwell House. It is also said that 5 U.S. Presidents and many other famous folks stayed at this Hotel.
Thanks again Dave for this information, I do not remember the plaque in the Loews Vendome,I went there many times but I was just 10 years old when it burned so I do not remember much about it. I wonder who ended up with this Nashville plaque? The man who I wanted to by one of these plaques from had 2 of them, one from the Loews Richmond and one from another old Loews which had also burned and was latter stored in New York till he bought it.I do have a photo of one of these plaques, not quite the same as having one but at least I know what they looked like.By the way he said he bought the one stored in New York for $35.00 and got the other one free. What a deal!
Just looked at my photo if the Loews Vendome posted on April 15, 2010 I can see the cables but not the Lions Heads. They would be nice to have though.I had a chance to by a plaque of Marcus Loew but the man who had it wanted $500.00, I wonder if the Loews Vendome ever had one of these plaques? I have read that there were around 144 of them made after Marcus died in 1927 and were installed in most Loews theatres at that time.Like you Dave I wish I had bought it now, but my banker, (my wife) thought it was too much to pay.
The Dixie was built in 1907 next to the arcade, it only had 107 seats, so I believe the address in the header is wrong, and this Dixie was on 5th Ave. North.
Thank you very much Dave, The Roxy and Elite have their own pages on Cinema Treasures not much info on them though anything that you could add or correct would be helpful.I thought that there had been serveral Elite theatres in Nashville. Also you just gave me the ansewer to a question I posted on the Fifth Ave Theatre Page about Crescent Amusement Co.
Also this poster was giving away some 1982 theatre seats for free, posted on Feb.9 2010.Guess which theatre they came out of?
Now if only my garage was big enough to hold them!!!
Nice little slideshow Patrick.
Thats it Chuck just like I remember it.The screen was not far behind the marquee.
I think you are correct William.
I will guess at$ 250.00 each.Whats the real amount?

Nice write up on this theatre Mike.
Another site lists this Crescent Theatre as operating 1921-1928.Of course these dates could be wrong.
By the way there were 4 Elite theatres in Nashville, only one is listed on C.T.
I read on another site that the Rex operated from 1920-1950.
I read on another site that this theatre operated from 1920-1928.
Bourbon Street Cafe, Cattle Call BBQ Resturant and Joes Catering are all listed at this address now.

I have just learned that there were 4 different Elite theatres in Nashville at one time.
