I’m not sure….i first went to this theater when it was a UA theater and then a Clearview. It was the first theater to have 70mm dolby stereo in Wayne.

Great article. It took more than a year to build and open the complex. When it opened it was the largest theater in Wayne, NJ and the busiest. It’s now a popular place to catch leftover movies as well as Indian movies.

The left and right auditoriums were small and had mono sound. The middle screen was the largest and had dolby stereo and 5.1 DTS although the sound was echoey.

According to the amc theatres website go click on the link for amc prime. It’s under the New York tab.

What was the longest engagement at this theater?

This was the place to go to if you wanted to see 1982 hits such as Rocky III and The Wall in 70mm dolby stereo.

It’s been nearly 10 years since this theater was closed and turned into a gym. I always liked the arcade there as it was huge. A bit noisey, but fun. The concession stand was good and the employees were great. This was the place to be in north jersey if you wanted to see Star Wars in a premium large format. Most of the country saw Star Wars in mono, which according to the makers of the movie, is the definitive mix, and 35mm projection, as the film was shot that way. Most of the original trilogy was remixed into 4.2 surround sound, with the special editions remixed into 5.1, and the prequels in 5.1 and 6.1 surround sound (episode 1 in 7.1 SDDS). Episode 1 was digitally projected in 2k months after it opened in 35mm in 1999.

it’s similar to the size of the screens at other AMCs. Given its name, this theater is the top grossing in the Garden State.

I think AMC should renovate every screen with recliners but that would cost a lot of money and time for a 16 year old complex that slowly became the top grossing theater in America after a lukewarm summer in 2000.

http://www.dailyrecord.com/story/news/2017/01/05/luxury-makeover-parsippany-multiplex/96210054/ this will give rockaway a run for its money unless AMC strikes first…

I think my dad went to this theater years ago when he saw Cats…i was way too young to see it as it was kinda adult for a family musical. Seeing the commercials i thought the cats looked scary and the yellow eyes filling the screen gave me nightmares. Thankfully i saw the musical on video and enjoyed it. That recording is from a London show.

the lincoln square imax is the closest theater to see imax with laser. Last time i went there they used 70mm imax 3d and that was in the mid to late 90s.

Carmike is now part of AMC, so AMC will probably divest this theater to another operator as this theater is not too far away from Rockaway.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Rockaway 16 on Dec 21, 2016 at 11:41 am

Ok. With the sale of Carmike to AMC complete, there might be talk of AMC to divest this theater as well as Sparta, which is not too far away from Rockaway and the only commercial movie theater left in Sussex County (the newton theater is independently run and sometimes shows movies mostly for revivals in addition to live concerts). Not only that, but the advertising will be switched to Screenvision from NCM soon.

It draws more people in morris county than the theater in morristown and east hanover combined. I created the theater post more than 10 years ago long before Facebook and others inputted places like this on their social media pages. I rarely comment on this page as I can comment on facebook and google. Might as well delete my profile.

Sounds similar to what i usually watch at AMC in Rockaway with a 2d version of a 3d converted movie where the movie looks sharp during the previews but when the lights go down its blurry. This theater is in need of an upgrade soon.

from what i heard dolby has HDR in the form of Dolby Vision and the seats shake when the sound is on. When you enter a dolby cinema, they have a display showing clips from the movie you are about to see. The picture quality of Dolby Cinema is the best i heard, even better than standard 4k projection.
