Correction: The Princess Gift Shop was the small storefront to the right of this theatre building.I just remembered that a Pin and Shaver shop was located in this space during my days there,it later moved the the historic Arcade about a block north of this location. The bookstore was located next door called “Cokesbury” also next to it was a “Hallmark” card store which was located on 5th Ave which was located earlier on 5th Ave,next to the 5th,Ave Theatre which has its own page on C.T.
Thanks LuisV,I understand ,not everbody has the love of old theatres as we do,but we can not save them all.I was just making the point that of all the posts on this theatre that someone could do something. But if the theatre is in a bad neighborhood it will never happen.I hope the the Loews Kings thing will work only time will tell. And the hidden Loews Canal maybe will make a comeback.Have a great day.
With all the folks who post on this theatre, you would think that someone would step up and do something to save it.Or maybe its a lot of talk about nothing.Good luck on any effort to save this historic theatre.
Drove by yesterday and the signboards have been removed from the marques’s and replaced by plywood and painted to match the building. At least the keep the complex looking good.
My wife drove by this theatre the other night and even though it has been closed since 1991 the lights were on on the marquee and tower although several of the letters where not working. They must be trying to bring attention to the new development.
Nice find Nick, thanks for posting.I have some photos also but do not have a scanner to post them like Mike.
The header on this theatre is still uncorrect,Loews closed this theatre in 1982 not 1972 as listed.
Thanks for the postcard veiw Don, a great find as always.
