TAFT, CA — Though regarded by many as vital to the ongoing redevelopment of the downtown area, the Fox Theatre is in danger of closing unless foreclosure proceedings can be forestalled. The theater opened in the 1920’s and has been extensively renovated and has been functioning as a triplex.
“[Foreclosure] would leave a gutted building downtown, which would be a worst-case scenario because this building virtually takes up most of the main street of Taft.”
There is more from KERO.

As to what’s showing reflects in the minimal information (attitude) on the beautiful marquee.
In other words, virtually NO effort was made by management to list who’s starring in what picture… nor any starting/ending dates and times, etc.
No wonder patronage was at a minimum, if any, and closure became part of the fact.
San Francisco’s Castro Theatre really knows how to get em' in!!!
I don’t disgaree with you about the Castro, but that’s a unique theater in many ways. How many theaters these days even have marquees or even advertise in the papers? I can’t remember the last time I saw any movie advertised in a theater directory or on an exterior signboard (those are disappearing too) or even on most listings on theater websites that indicated anything about who was in the films (except for those websites that include facsimiles of movie posters), I think the Taft Fox’s problems are less related to marquee signage than to other problems.
UPDATE: At least for the time being, the theater will continue to operate: View link and View link
Thats good news Thanks Chris.
