very sad, as a life long south jersey shore guy i have vivid memories or these theaters from my youth, and i spent a summer running the stone harbor theater
in south jersey we have far more regals in a small area then amc’s the ritz was purchased by national amusment about 2 years ago and there is one cinemark which sticks out like a sore thumb
i run a single screen indie theater which no one knows about and classic films have been phased out due to lack of intrest, i took a pay cut to save the films
i still like seeing shows at cinemark they do a fantastic midnight cult classic once a month, but national amusement was my fave place to go see a flick in a clean quiet enviroment. regal is and will continue to be all thats wrong with theater chains
national amusment purchased the ritz theater in vorheese nj which was mainly an arthouse then went more mainstream with there bookings then closed there 16 screen theater in atco nj
the economy is in the toilet but it would be nice to see the community rally and bring back a piece of there past. entertainment is so important when times are harsh like today
while i have never been up to this area and maybe i never will im allways pulling for people with a will to get the projector running again and bring back a piece of the past
in my case lack of respect for the films by those who run the live theater lack of promotion and internal conflict is what sunk the films
when your tickets are 3 and 5 dollars and there are no weekend show times available how am i to compete with concert tickets set at 40 a piece and plays at 26 each
thanks, in the end i just couldnt make it work and the plays and concerts make money hand over fist so i cant fault the people who make the decisions but i just feel my fight was all for nothing and its alot for ones pride.
i have 2 classics left before they pull the plug on movies alltoghter, the maltese falcon on wednesday and its a wonderfull life in december, but my shows for the christmas movie have been chopped in half so this is the last hurrah. hey i gave it a good fight no matter how many people wanted to see it go down in flames i kept plugging away pitching and getting rejected for all sorts of special film events i would pay for just to have in house. i gave it all i had but as my father told me at some point in my 27 years on this earth “most of the time the things you love will never love you back”
once a month i was showing a 35mm classic film but the company who owns my building wasnt promoting and the show times were being clipped back and numbers fell off even at 3 and 5 bucks so they put an end to this fantastic event in december. i looked forward to working on these amazing classics every month and its sad to see the classics die but as im told over and over by those who make the rules no one cares about these films anymore
my theater is indie so i run a classic drive in ad then 2- 70’s 80’s or 90’s quirky trailers from my collection before the movie people show up early to see what i have added to the film
i remember being hired and starting behind the candy stand and wanting to get moved out to usher, for some reason at 16 years old it seemed like a profile gig, we took great pride in our jobs and the trouble we could get into in the downtime ahh the amc days. i allways wanted the theaters to be clean the bathrooms to be ready the doors to be open on time, thinking it would set my little 8 plex apart from the 24s and 16s in the area. we had a great core i miss those days
but once i got my feet under me in projection i was hellbent on creating the best show o could, playing with the preshows to make it more exciting for the viewer. but regal put an end to that
i go to the movies alot and im allways looking to see how things are handled at various theaters. ur hard pressed to see kids now that care. i visted my ex regal theater and couldnt find an employee with a tucked in shirt, the girl in box office was texting
hahaha i was working down at the jersey shore and down under the boardwalk there was countless reels of 70’s porno films where the theater use to store equipment, they were water damaged and rusted but it was still kinda weird and funny to think how much smut was under the shrek doll game
my 1st week in the booth way back in 99 i started eyes wide shut instead of a pg film on the 3rd platter, then again who schedules an r and a pg in the same house….oh yeah managers who dont care or are not trained by corprate

my last response was prompted by the fact the theaters accountant looks at my myspace and facebook all the time so im just covering my bases
but they pay the bills and in the here and now during these trying economic times i should just smile and do what im told

this happens all the time, but the contrast in trailer content should be the 1st sign to stop the print and reset
