When Frank theaters took over, the orignal screen and drive in was torn down and moved futhur back. Frank theater built the Town Cinema in probibly the late 60’s or early 70’s. The original screen was right in the front off the Black Horse Pike. You could still see the screen from the BHP once it was moved to the back. I think the drive in bit the dust pribibly in the late 80’s.

They used the big theater on the left which might have been 3 not 1 for the shows. That theater had the stage which had a huge screen when it was a movie theater. Thank you for adding Nancy Kulp’s name to the postings. Since I posted my comment in June I coul dnot remember her name. Major senior moment. LOL

After Budco closed the theaters in 1986, they opened a dinner theater there. The open attraction was No No Nanette with the lady who played Jane hathoway on The Beverly Hillbillies. They used theter 1 for the shows and theaters 2 & 3 were used for a kitchen and seating to eat. The dinner theater unfortunately didn’t last very long.
Yes Suncoast video was the store. Thanks Nick I was having a senior moment when I posted my comment this morning. I moved from Tampa in 1996 and can’t beleive how much it sounds like it changed. Tampa Bay mall gone, Eastlake Sq an office complex. All the movie theaters I went to are gone.
I am really glad to hear this Howard. As many years as Ilived inNYC I never went to the Paris. I used to work arounf the corner at the Festival. It’s nice to know they still use curtains. I don’t understand why Clearview can’t do that with the Ziegfeld.
They did show Superman in 70mm for a $1.00. If you look on the posting for the Virginia Theater in Atlantic City, Hamid would bring the 70mm equipment from the Virginia to use in the Stadium during the winter months.
This theater had the exclusive showing in Tampa of The Color Purple. It took me several months to be able to get in to see it. It played there for almost 9 motnhs in 1986
Hey Nick
The theater opene in 1984. One of the opening attractions was 2010 shown in the large theater in 70MM. The large theater and the one to it’s right had masking and curtains which was not common for GCC. The other 4 theaters had masking that came down instead of across. In the middle 80’s it was a very popular theater for GCC.
I think it fell arounf the time Regal filed bankruptsy.

I think this is great news. Downtown needs a movie theater again. I think they should restore the marquee to what is was when it was the Midtown.
The most I can tell you is it was on Baltimore Pike next to the Bazzar which was torn down many years ago.
The theater has been rebuilt and has been opened since last fall. The staus should show open braoadway theater.

After they closed, the theater became a video store.

IS this the theater that is still standing behind the Innis Brook Mall? If it is Neal the current manager of the Fine Arts was the manager there.
Is this where Asheville Pizza and Brew Cinema is now located?
Thanks Mike. I live in Asheville and didn’t know all these theaters existed.
I think it is great news that center city will have a theater showing movies again.

A question for my curiosity. Do they have masking for the screen for films not filmed in scope?
Is this theater doing as good as it used to since City Cinemas took it over?
How much do they charge in NY for 3-d. It’s $3.50 extra in Asheville and that’s bad enoough

I remember in the early 80’s they showed old classics. I rememebr seeing Auntie Mame there.
