Shouldn’t this say 11 screens, not 10?

Too bad they don’t keep the Colossus brand, Cineplex Cinemas Vaughan doesn’t sound very exciting.

Interesting how they are giving up the Coliseum brand. I wonder if they will give up Colossus too. In some cases changing Cineplex Odeon too.

This opened December 19th, 2005 and not in 1995…5 years after Silvercity Newmarket.

I seem to remember that the Bramalea only had 3 screens, wasn’t aware that they expanded to 4. It had only 3 when I used to go there. Square One had 4.

What was the layout of the theatre Jason? Seems like a very unique design. Were all of the cinemas on one level? Did you have to use that ramp to enter the cinema level? I really wish I had the opportunity to have seen a film there and to experience the theatre like I did the Capitol 6 in Vancouver.

Interesting how the Odeon across the street is still going strong, yet no one went to the Capitol 6. Looks great to me. Wonder what the difference was? There are always enough films to go around.

What a beautiful theatre. Sometimes I wish this era of big box megaplexes never happened, we’ve lost dozens and dozens of perfectly fine theatres that would have lasted for years to come in another time. I can’t imagine why the Capitol 6 could not make a go of it with another company, say Rainbow / Magic Lantern or Landmark.

Too bad it couldn’t have been open all these years. Too bad it couldn’t come back to life now. At least it would be 2 more screens in the downtown core and now with the Rideau Centre and World Exchange closed, might actually do well.

Interesting how one country’s capital is booming with cinemas

http://cinematreasures.org/blog/2014/1/24/district-theater-boom-on-the-rise

another country has no more movie complexes in it’s downtown core. I realize that Ottawa isn’t nearly as big as Washington, but you would think a city of this size could have at least ONE cinema complex downtown. Shameful. I pity that the residents who DO live in downtown Ottawa can no longer walk to a movie because of some greedy landlords who can’t come to terms on a lease even when there is a company willing to lease the space and keep the cinemas open.

Noticed on the Cineplex web site today that the VIP price is now listed at $19.99 instead of the $24.99 that was listed when it was opened.

They seem to be finally streamlining their brands. I’m quite surprised they have kept the Famous Players brand after all these years, should have been Cineplex Cinemas Canada Square, Cineplex Cinemas Pickering 8 etc…looks like in the future they will only have Cineplex, Galaxy and Silvercity as their brands.

telliott commented about World Exchange Plaza theatre closes its doors on Jan 10, 2014 at 8:39 am

It’s a sad day indeed when the capital city of Canada can’t even support a modern cinema complex in it’s downtown core, even though there is a theatre chain who wants to continue showing films there. Obviously a very narrow minded, short sighted property manager does not see the benefits of having a perfectly decent 7 screen complex in an upscale location as a showcase for films downtown. Shameful.

This theatre is now closed. Unbelievable that the capital city of Canada no longer has any large theatre complex downtown, only the single screen Bytowne and Mayfair. I never did understand why Cineplex had to divest itself of both the Rideau Centre and this one. When Empire took them both, wasn’t THAT a conflict of the rules? I wonder if Cineplex had kept this one, if it would still be open? I was of the understanding that the competition bureau didn’t want one chain having threatres near to each other, but that didn’t happen here. The World Exchange and Rideau were very close to each other.

Agreed LuisV. Can’t understand it either. Here in Toronto we have 4, The Royal Alex, Elgin / Winter Garden (which is on top of the downstairs Elgin) and the Ed Mirvish (formerly Canon, Pantages, Imperial). I can’t imagine this city without them, especially if there was only ONE
