Theatre now officially named Cineplex Cinemas Scarborough today. The remaining Coliseums in Bayshore-Ottawa and Kirkland would join in the rebranding along with the Colossus Theatres as Cineplex Cinemas.
Too bad they don’t keep the Colossus brand, Cineplex Cinemas Vaughan doesn’t sound very exciting.
From what I gathered, the theatre opened in 1998 two years before the old Cineplex Odeon 12 (opened in 1981) closed down in 2000, which is now occupied by a Gap store. Cineplex reclaimed the site through the sale of Famous Players in 2005.
Theatre #8 recently got DBOX a few months ago. However, it will also get UltraAVX as well.
Updated seat count: 3,544.
Lowest seats: 227 (Aud 2/3) Highest seats: 416 (Aud 12)
That seat count could go down even further (by more than half) if they put in new luxury recliners.
This theatre is on a brink of possible closure before 2026. Oxford wants this property and site to be redeveloped for the TTC’s Line 2 Bloor-Danforth extension to Scarborough Centre which replaces Line 3 Scarborough RT. Cineplex plans to construct a new cinema on the northeast corner of the property where the old Sears stood.

Not Cineplex Odeon. The independent entity was abolished in 1998 when it became part of Loews.
Cineplex Entertainment, which was then known as Cineplex Galaxy for the last few months, owned that theatre since 2005.
Please remove Loews CIneplex. Famous Players was the sole owner until 2005.
Famous Players opened Coliseum Scarborough on November 27, 1998, with A Bug’s Life, Home Fries, The Rugrats Movie, Enemy of the State, Ringmaster, The Waterboy, Very Bad Things, and Babe: Pig in the City. Cineplex Galaxy acquired it in 2005 and later added UltraAVX in 2011, and renamed it to Cineplex Cinemas Scarborough in 2014.
