jwr, How bout adding the Camp Kaiser Theater to Cinema Treasures or email the info you have to me and I’ll add it, what about other posts you saw flicks at?

I don’t know if you know this but after 16 years the Camp closed in November of 1970 and was turned over to the ROK Army Corps. Perhaps they still show movies? Anyway when the Army left, Unchon became a Ghost Town.

jce, your right, I think what was meant to be said was that this is the first time a new type of giant shopping mall has opened on a U.S. military installation and a megaplex was included.

5518 is not correct, if you look at the Map, behind 5800 you can still see the remains of the Drive-In in the lawn.

Y. & W. Management Corp., of Indianapolias, Vern R. Young, President & Treasurer, had 17 theaters all in Indiana in 1967, including the Muncie Drive-In.

Timeline:

January 16, 1889 Opened as the SALIDA OPERA HOUSE.
1909 Renovated to accommodate motion pictures and renamed OSOS GRAND THEATER.
1936 named SALIIDA THEATER.
Late 1960’s renamed UNIQUE THEATER.
At one time it was named EMPRESS THEATER.
Last owned by John Groy.
August 7, 2006 Closed.

November 10, 2010 AFTER 121 YEARS THE ENTIRE BUILDING IS STILL STANDING!

ennis is correct the REAL IMAX is gone. The IMAX Projection Equipment was removed in 2000.

Chris is correct, the mini-imax has been thrown in on the “slightly curved and moved forward screen” CINERAMA it ain’t. HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART I: the imax experience, opens Friday, November 19, 2010, 9:15am, $17.50, if you care to spend an extra $6.50 for the imax experience.

In 1940 was owned by Carolina Amusement Co., Inc of Elizabeth City, Mrs. W.T. Culpepper, President, with about 5 theaters in North Carolina and Virginia.

Owned for it’s entire life by M. Switow & Sons, Enterprises, Inc. of Louisville, Ky. Sam J. Switow, President, they had about 14 theaters.

If you go to the Map you can still tell it was a Drive-In.

Anyone know what R/C stands for? The C could stand for Cohen. The company has been around since 1932, that’s all I could find out.
