According to their website-should be changed to OPEN. This old classic came so close to being demolished, after escaping “condo conversion”,believe it or not.
Just spent an hour going through over a hundred pages of the old roanoke website. On it are pics of the MUSIC ACADEMY,which is fairly well remembered-and should be on this site- quite beautiful, but also the RIALTO(Campbell Ave.)and the PARK,nearby, probably on Jefferson.
Chuck,I’m just thankful that it,amazingly, has survived, mostly intact.Yes,SLC once had one of the finest collections of downtown movie venues.Remember TAMPICO,between Main & State,in an alley. That and the Heidelberg, were my favs for dates when coming up from Happy Valley. Were you around when the Sound of Mucus played for over a year on Main St.?
SO-you are saying Utah is a “different” kind of place? You betcha.I liked you till you said you wore RED.(lol) I am glad I am old enough to have lived in downtown SLC when most of the old theaters still operated.Walking to those wonderful bygone places was a thrill I did not appreciate enough at the time.I still wait to see the final fate of the UTAH.
Very popular with both locals and the BYU crowd for many years. What was so nice about the Pioneer, the Art City just to the South,as well as the two in Orem-they were CLEAN,safe and well-run.
Funny you should mention spooks.I just saw the “GHOST LAB” guys doing the Florida. The place IS seriously haunted,as are so many old places.Good shots of the beauty of the place.
It looks BAD.Going downhill fast.It is quite a small place.Petersburg, overall,is a sad place, with a street here and there getting attention, while three go downhill.
COME ON PEOPLE!!! GO TO THE BYRD OR LOOSE THE BYRD.I am sometimes just sad how little support this true national treasure gets. I was telling some foilks in Lynchburg today about the Byrd.Said they’s have to go soon.Didn’t know it existed anymore.
HEY!!! Mr.Lost, yesterday,i noticed one of the doors ajar on the old theater in CREWE.Don’t know the name of it.Went inside to a super-sad sight.Roof totally collapsed.Place had a balcony with brass rail still in place.very dangerous to enter, but must see,of course. No way to “save” this place with any amount of money.
All it takes is a stroll thru the google world to see what a nice place this was.
Miss Toes has found something very interesting. The Trenton/Warner needs more research.
In army days,it seated 500.

Sitsa like a poor relation right close to Byrd.Still looks like a small theater.
I saw BULLITT there 1st run. They had a movie Mustang in the lobby.Very sad about this place going down.
NEEDS TO BE CHANGED TO OPEN!!!!!
Y'all need a better pic,not blocked by buses.
A TWO MILLION DOLLAR grant by Mr.& Mrs.November will facilitate a total renovation of facade.
A shot of the dedraggled facility shows up in a new car magazine in an article about the Buick LaCrosse.

If you turn the pic to the left(S),the tall building next to the shorter, old building is the site of this former great theater.Still angers me.
Article in today’s Tribune goes into continuing limbo of this wonderful venue.Best thing is a gallery of recent interior shots.
I centered the pic on the theater. You are welcome.Passed there yesterday.Hairspray playing.

The pathetic fact is that this ruin is the most intact old theater left in Petersburg.

The 2009 photo mentions the RIO.Why isn’t it listed???

It isn’t there anymore.
Franklin is in BAD shape due to the closing of the paper mill that was the area’s largest employer.
