The Showplace is no longer used as a movie theater, it has been since converted into an event center under the name “Showplace Event Center”. It is now used for parties, weddings or any other types of events.
The theatre is still sitting abandoned as of 2022, the inside is crumbling really bad and I believe water has gotten inside since it smelled pretty moldy from the outside, very sad and I hope someone gives the building some love before it’s too late.
This theater replaced the Midway Mall 2 theater which opened in 1966. It was orignally a 1-screen cinema expanded to 2-screens in 1975. The theater was closed in 1987 and was taken over and fully remodeled into a General Cinema theater in 1990, during this time the theater was expanded to an 8-screen theater.
