Or you could try looking on the microfilm of the West Australian newpapapers in the Alexander Library(3rd floor, Battye Library), or possibly on online on Trove? The New Oxford Theatre(now Luna Leederville), ran the Movie “The Gods must be crazy” for over 2 years, maybe even 3 years, saving that thestre, so long movie runs are possible.
City Arcade is now called Carillon City after combining with Carillon Arcade(former Moores Department store site) next door in the(1990’s i think?). Fashion label One Fell Swoop held a fashion show in the cinema space(the seats and carpet already removed, date unknown!!?). There a 9 screen(800 seats) cinema proposed to be built in Carillon City, possibly on the Hoyts Cinema 1 site(proposed to possibly open in 2020/2021!!?)?
What a building!! It should have been heritage listed and saved. It looks like a department store with its 5 floors(6th floor in the top front corner?).
The first BBC staff moved into the Scenery Block in 1953. The offical opening was on 29/6/1960. Television Centre was seen been blown up(not for real) in an episode of the television series “The Goodies”(series 2, episode 18, Gender educagion). The front of the building(and possibly the inside?) was used the the television series “An Adventure in Space and Time” about the early beginings of the television series “Doctor Who” which used to be filmed in Television Centre(studo recordings). It was the last programme filmed before the partital demolition and resoration of Television Centre. The inside(and possibly the outside?) of Television was seen in one of the extras on the “Doctor who” dvd “The Visitation”(The Television Centre of the Universe – part 1). The Television Centre of the Universe – part 2 is an extra on the Doctor Who" dvd of “The Underwater Menace”. The gardens outside Television Centre used by the Television prograame “Blue Peter” is still there(also heritage listed i think?).
