Recently Clearview introduced their new hotline for movie showtimes. 1-888-CLVW-TIX is the number, and they mentioned that this theater has stadium seating. Is this true? More like sloped seating. It also mentions which movies are showing in DLP. Very creative. Plus if any CT members have all 3 Optimum services, then Tuesday nights are free at this and other cinemas.

Did anyone go to last night’s world premiere of the movie at this theater. The late Heath Ledger’s famiy relatives, as well as Mr. Bale and the director, attended the event. This movie will be the highest grossing Imax release at this theater for some time. The movie will shift aspect ratios from regular scope to full IMAX. I wonder how the transitions will happen, like fade in and out, or just flash, there it is!!!

speaking of batman, it will play on four screens tomorrow at midnight. At least one of the shows is sold out. Starting tonight, advance ticketing for the movie will expand more showtimes; I guess the DLP will be used after the Beck ‘08 Live show for one of the auditoriums, as the NCM Fathom events come to this theater in two days. The Dark Knight will rule this theater this weekend, and with the movie being sold out, there are a couple of other movie choices for audiences to see, even though Mamma Mia and Space Chimps are getting so-so to terrible reviews. Next week should see the arrival of X-Files 2 (the second time this movie has been in town) and Step Brothers, which looks dumb. AFter batman, next movie I’m checking out is the next mummy movie. The last mummy movie was shown at the Rockaway 6, and I saw a trailer for Mummy 2. Too bad I saw it at what would become another AMC theater, Clifton Commons.

moviebuff82 commented about Sumner Redstone in talks to buy out daughter on Jul 15, 2008 at 1:03 pm

It’s all in the family business. National Amusements is not as well known as other Redstone properties, so seeing the chain fold under two separate companies might be a strange idea.

moviebuff82 commented about Remembering "Die Hard" on Jul 15, 2008 at 12:51 pm

I first saw this movie a year ago because of the new Die Hard movie that came out last summer. The first one is still the best. Part 2 was good, and part 3 was decent, Part 4 sucked since it was rated pg-13 but then became unrated in the dvd version. I think they should not make more die hard movies since Willis is getting too old.

When the outers opened in 1981, did they introduce cupholders at that location? Cause AMC was the first to patent the invention at its newer theaters.

If they build it, then people from across the Delaware in NJ (specifically the Blairstown area) will have a bigger multiplex go to other than the small Mansfield theater that has state-of-the art picture and sound in half of its screens (ever since Rockaway opened I rarely go to the older theaters anymore). Plus, it will be the closest Cinemark theater in the NY Metro area. I’ve never been to a Cinemark theater (only AMC and Regal come to mind, with AMC my favorite chain). Is it as good as the other big two?

i agree…for those who live in stroudsburg, the closest thing to a multiplex would be down in the easton/allentown/bethlehem area. Thanks for the web link, chuckc.

went tonight to a screening of Hellboy 2 in one of the two main large auditoriums. Very good presentation, some minor splicing and framing issues, but great sound. Can’t wait to see the new batman movie next week.

or cesar romero or even mark hamill in animated form. I’ve seen two of those listed movies, Lords of Dogtown and Brokeback Mountain. I also saw Heath in A Knight’s Tale and his on-screen debut in 10 Things….I saw parts of his TV debut in Roar, which didn’t last long on fox. Had Ledger been alive, he would’ve gotten rich by the end of the film’s general release. Now it’ll be handled by his widow Michelle Williams and her only daughter. Heather Ledger is to the 2000’s what the Lees were in the 1990’s and the 1970’s.

Also playing this weekend are two surefire hits, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, and Journey to the Center of the Earth, which won’t be shown in 3D. Comic book movies tend to do well at the box office, and next weekend won’t be no exception. Last time I checked, there were still showtimes for the new batman movie, but get them quick before they sell out!!! I predict that the IMAX version will do great, followed by 35mm and DLP versions of the film. I predict that this movie will have a long shelf life at this theater for many months to come….only Vantage Point, Horton, and Iron Man were popular for two months for each movie

Or Clearview’s website. Loews used to have a possessive back when Loew was the owner (Loew’s) but the rest is history, as it’s now called AMC Loews.

Even though the theater has changed hands somewhat and increased its screen total while shrinking two of its larger screens showing 70mm format film, it still works since its not too far from a busy mall that attracts shoppers on sundays when the bergen malls are closed.

sorry for the double post that I made on Jun 29. It was just a glitch. Anyways, Hancock is playing on a lot of screens due to its short running time and Will Smith. He’s been in two other movies at this theater, I Am Legend and The Pursuit of Happyness, both of which did well at this theater. Coming up next weekend Hellboy will make his debut in Rockaway while Eddie Murphy returns to the theater with a bomb, Meet Dave. The week after both films come out should be big business for Rockaway, as NCM Fathom brings its film series to AMC as well as the new Batman movie.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Loews Plaza 8 on Jul 5, 2008 at 10:54 am

According to a post on this theater’s larger brother, both of these buildings will be closed by next year to make way for a 14 screener from Kerasotes, a little-known chain. It’ll be sad to see both theaters go but it will be simpler for Secaucus moviegoers to see a movie in just one building rather than two seperate buildings. This was the same case with the two Paramus theaters owned by Cineplex before Loews took over before the AMC merger and paved the way for a 16-screener, as well as AMC’s two Rockaway theaters in and out of the mall before the 16 plex opened.

I agree with you John. AMC has done a terrible job of maintaining run-down Loews theaters (except the one in Lincoln Square) that it acquired after the merger, even though it still runs most of the popular GC venues well (e.g., Clifton Commons).

one other thing about this theater…they don’t serve coffee like that other 16-plex I used to go to…and that was Clifton Commons!!! I wonder if they still serve coffee there after AMC bought it from General Cinema.

just came after a 2:10 showing of Wanted, and it was without some faults. The only fault was that the guy printed the wrong showtime, which already started!!! Must be a young worker working behind the office, as the theater was packed with Wall*E fans waiting to see that movie, which will be #1. Don’t forget that WarGames is coming back to Rockaway after it first came out at the old Rockaway theater back in the 1980’s. The sound was kicking and the projection was good, some splices during the film that didn’t detract from the presentation. Parking was almost full due to the bad weather. Since the entrance to the theater was packed, me and my family exited elsewhere.

just checked out the advance tickets for the rockaway and for the first time this theater will host an NCM event. Glenn Beck, a conservative TV host best known for his short lived tv show on Headline News, will host Beck ‘08 (no relation to the singer) on the same day as the Dark Knight movie. It will be projected using the same format as the digital preshow. As for that other movie, it won’t be shown in IMAX as originally planned; looks like I have to head to Palisades Center or Lincoln Square to watch the Dark Knight the way it’s supposed to be seen.
