Just down the street from the Palace is a great little Italian restaurant called Little Chicago. They have several b/w celebrity photos along the walls i.e. Rat Pack, etc. Even the menus have different b/w celebrity photos on each one. The atmosphere is cozy and the entrees delicious. If you find yourself in Canton, check it out and be sure to check out the enlarged James Dean speeding ticket that is framed in the back of the restaurant. It is entitled Last Autograph as Mr. Dean’s signature is at the bottom of the speeding ticket which he rec’d on the day he died 2 hours later on a CA highway. Across the ticket someone has written….VOID DECEASED!
Chuck: A very nice evening photo! I can wait to see it, in person, in 2 weeks enroute to CT for a wedding. I plan to contact someone prior to my arrival at the Palace to show us the theatre if we don’t get to see a classic movie or live performance.
Thanks for the photo of the curved marquee. It’s somewhat rare to see marquees that are of this design. My former corner hometown theatre had one and it was seen from both ends of main street!
Matt: Hello. This is the gal and her husband who still want to see Jukebox Journey this fall or winter so I hope you are still in production. Please send an email to as I have missplaced your email address. Thanks so much.
Ms. Lamb: It was interesting to read your July 2001 post. Since it was posted 4 years ago I hope that you still visit CT from time to time. I plan to stop and see this ‘landmark’ Landmark Theatre in October and am so pleased to read that SALT restored it. If you go to the word architect on this site, you should find a list of theatres that the name Lamb was associated with in years gone by.
Thank you for your e mail. Unfortunately the Madison Theatre has been gone for many years. It was in the city of Mansfield and was called the Madison Theatre and was next door to the Soldiers and Sailors Museum, now called the Memorial Museum. Where it stood is now a small park. I remember it well and it is sad that it was torn down before people in this city realized the benefit of restoring these beautiful buildings. We are fortunate to have the Ohio Theatre which has been restored and houses our Renaissance Theatre and our Mansfield Symphony Orchestra. Hope this information is helpful. Lydia Reid
Nice to read that this theatre is still open as so many listed in Dayton are either closed or demolished. The McCook is listed as open, but it’s a bookstore according to what I’ve read on CT.
lostmemory: The largomainstreet site said that the “file was not found”. I really wanted to view this quonset hut theatre. I know of one in Hartwell GA (Judy Theatre) that is now an Ace hardware store. I was in that town last winter and met the hardware owner who took me on a tour of the former theatre. His office is where the lobby was located and the theatre had a ‘crying room’ for children during the movie! The floor had been leveled so the hut could be use for storage of hardware merchandise.
Conrad Schmitt: Thank and I will be visiting Albany and this theatre in October! I recently found out through a technical director that the Schmitt Studios were involved with the Palace Theatre in Canton Ohio in regards to painting their stage curtain mural!
I decided to revisit this link and now recall the sad photo of the balcony with parking lot below! So very sad for the citizens of Lansing! I used to have a college roommate from Lansing so perhaps I should contact her to ‘pick her brain’!

They sure made a nice change to the marquee compared to the CT photo. Returning it to the original design was the way to go!

Jeff: Thanks for this information so will check their website for Casablanca dates beyond the 29th!

Interesting that Columbus Ohio would have 2 Lamb theatres.
Is this theatre open or closed in 2005. One of the 5 interior b/w photos posted May 8, 2005 shows workers removing the organ for restoration.
There are 147 theatres listed with Thomas Lamb as the architect. The Century is listed with photos that was in Buffalo NY, but is now a Burger King!

The Madison Theatre is now a park which is information I rec’d via an email from the Mayor of Mansfield Ohio.

A former theatre turned into a hotel? Interesting.

lostmemory: Any interior photos?
Chuck: Thanks for the beautiful b/w photo of this former theatre.
Joe: If you can post the photos you have and that you sent to me, please do so. Thanks.
Also sent an email to the www.kenoshatheatre.org website and it, too, was undeliverable.
Pete: Sent an email to your address, but was undeliverable. Please advise.

Do you recall seeing any other theatre coverage on any other networks other than MSNBC?
Bryan: Your July 29th 2004 post doesn’t show the auditorium, lobby and the grand staircase. Please advise. Thanks.

What’s the current status of this atmospheric theatre in Kenosha WI?
