This Quonset-style theater opened in the downtown section of Largo in 1948 and was operated by Floyd Theaters. It was located on Bay Drive and had seating for around 400. The Largo Theatre had a large Streamline Moderne-style triagular marquee and vertical sign. The first film shown there was Abbott & Costello’s “Buck Privates Come Home”. It was later operated by Affiliated Theaters, a subsidiary of McLendon Theatres.
The theater closed about 1980 and was dismantled and reused at another location in Largo as a maintenance building for the city’s public works department.

lostmemory: The largomainstreet site said that the “file was not found”. I really wanted to view this quonset hut theatre. I know of one in Hartwell GA (Judy Theatre) that is now an Ace hardware store. I was in that town last winter and met the hardware owner who took me on a tour of the former theatre. His office is where the lobby was located and the theatre had a ‘crying room’ for children during the movie! The floor had been leveled so the hut could be use for storage of hardware merchandise.

It appears that Largo had an earlier theater. This picture of the New Pinellas Hotel was taken in 1918 and shows a theater on the left. I can’t seem to find any information on this theater—not even a name—so I haven’t submitted a new entry.
I remember watching a Gozilla picture and the original Planet of the Apes there. Both times, it rained so hard that we could not hear the film due to the pounding rain on the metal Quonset Hut roof.
