Promo for “Irma La Douce” at the Guild Theatre advertised on the facade of the Fremont Theatre lower right. Circa June 1963 35mm slide image credit Frank Hemenway.
“The Fox Theater, which opened on October 30, 1946, can be seen under construction in the background. The man in the photo is Clarence Harold Young, owner of the historic Young Building at East Colfax and Dayton and the Great, Great Uncle of the person who shared this photo. CH Young also owned the Young Motor Company at 32nd and Irving, ran for Mayor of Aurora and dated Helen Bonfils.
Other signs and businesses in this photo include Kliss Bakery, Haynes Jewelry, Aurora Music & Appliance Co and Joselyn’s Cleaners."
My guess is the cost to repair it is so high that they keep kicking the can down the road.
If there is an alternate route that satisfies ADA requirements,
it may be a long time unless the city leans on them.
Per Jim Layland:
“Car 137 was built by the St. Louis Car Co. for Albert Johnson’s Lehigh Valley Traction Co. circa 1900. It was part of a large order by LVT for cars for the planned Philadelphia and New York City interurban.”
Additional “Grand Opening” print ad added credit Lehigh Valley History.
However “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” was released December 23, 1954.
So likely just promotional use of the term since it had already opened that August.
