Valley Drive-In

Valley Drive-In opened on June 20, 1955, featuring the 1954 comedy “Tonight’s the Night” with David Niven, Yvonne DeCarlo and Barry Fitzgerald. The second feature of the evening was the 1944 western “Run for Cover” with James Cagney, Viveca Lindfors and John Derek. It was opened by George Turlukis, he also operates the Ramona Drive-In and the Rossville Theatre. The drive-in featured a 1,150 car capacity parking ramp along with “moonlight” lighting. It was equipped with a 110 ft. x 62 ft. CinemaScope screen with RCA projection and sound system equipment. In addition it had in-a-car electric heaters for operating in the winter time. Between 1962-1966 Associated Theatres, Cleveland, Ohio, was the buying and booking agency. I think they might have been operating both the Valley Drive-In and Ramona Drive-In during this time period.

Eventually Ben Cohen of Holiday Amusements Co. would take over ownership of the Valley Drive-In. Holiday Amusements would be operating all the drive-in theatres in the Hamilton, Ohio, area. Ben Cohen died at the early age of 57 in May of 1974. The Valley Drive-In closed at the end of the 1986 summer season. The Acme Drive-In, Holiday Drive-In and Colonial Drive-In continued operating until the end of the 1987 drive-in season and they all closed for good. The former Valley Drive-In property was cleared except for the screen tower. The property was sold and redeveloped for industrial business’s and storage units. The screen tower was finally demolished around 2002.
