So they closed the theater inside the mall? From what I understand, there were once two separate theaters: one in the front closer to Penney’s and the one in the rear (north) side of the mall. When the mall was renovated in 1992-93, the two separate theaters were combined. If you ever went in the University 16, you probably saw a pair of escalators going down to a few theaters. I believe those were part of the original “back” theaters.

This is the State in 1984, courtesy of the State Archives. Everything from the State to the traffic light was demolished.

There was a drive-in on 20th Avenue (US 29) just east of the intersection with Main Street, now 33rd Street. This area is all retail now.

Looks like this one was on the Asheville Highway (US 176) just south of Main Street. The marquee is still standing!

Nevermind. Looks like it would’ve been at about 4273 Bemiss.

Looks like there was a drive-in on S. Ferdon Boulevard just north of I-10. That area’s all big box stores and strip centers and has been since at least 1999.

Looks like this was east of town on 441. A church occupies the site now. The church’s address is 17155 NW US Highway 441.

I’m trying to get a new link. I think it might be the website. It’s not cooperating.

The Captiol might have been located at 202 N. Evers Street. I’ve found articles saying it was threatened with demolition in 1996, but was renovated in either 2003 or 2006. The building in question doesn’t really resemble a theater from the outside, but that makes sense if it only operated on one floor.
