Updating your password
To use the new Cinema Treasures, you need to first update your account password.
Here are the steps you should take:
- Go to the Reset your password page.
- Enter your email address or username.
- Check your email for an email from us.
- Click the link in the email we sent you.
- Enter your new password twice and save.
If you can’t remember your email address or the email address we have on file for you is possibly out of date, then we recommend emailing for help.

UltraStar closes three southern California operations
VISTA, CA — UltraStar Cinemas is closing three of its theaters in southern California. The Flower Hill 4 in Del Mar will be shut down in July. The Del Mar Highland 8, which closed in January supposedly for renovation, will not be reopening after all. The Carlsbad 6 in La Costa was closed earlier this month. UltraStar says that the leases on these theaters, which it acquired from The Edwards chain, were underperforming and that the leases on them were expiring.
Others in the industry claim high ticket prices have led to the theaters' demise. At $13 a ticket for a 3-D movie, many believe that a movie night out has been made unaffordable for most families.

Bad Drive-in memories of the previous tornado
FLINT, MI — The tornado in Joplin, MO claimed more than 100 lives. The previous tornado with a death toll of at least 100 was the Beecher Tornado which struck the Beecher district north of Flint, MI on June 8, 1953. Near the tornado’s path was the North Flint Drive-in Theatre.
The drive-in was safely evacuated and, despite recollections to the contrary, received only minor damage from the tornado. The drive-in reopened when the curfew was lifted a few days later.

Cinema chains dimming movies “up to 85%” on digital projectors
It’s been reported that AMC, National Amusements and Regal Cinema chains are leaving 3D projector lenses on for 2D movies. This means that the projected image is polarized and far dimmer than it should be. The 3 chains are mum but an insider, speaking on condition of anonymity, says it’s “unspoken” corporate policy.
Delving deeper, a possible reason for this is it’s too much work after each film to accurately swap lenses but also because a certain security feature could be disabled; DRM (or Digital Rights Management) that is the bane of privacy issues to most internet users.

Former American Theater in Troy may become City Council chamber
TROY, NY — This city’s Council is looking for a new home for City Hall; one serious candidate is apparently the Dauchy Building on River Street. The building houses a former adult movie theater called the Cinema Art which opened in the 1920’s as the American Theatre. This cinema might become the Council’s official meeting space. The theater closed in 2006 after a police raid.
City residents will get a chance to see the plans for a city hall based in the Dauchy Building at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Christ Church United Methodist.
In April, the council hired John G. Waite Associates of Albany for $22,000 to perform the feasibility study. Councilman Bill Dunne said the plan suggested the council chambers could locate in the theater instead of the Dauchy’s fourth floor.

New multiplex opens in Westfall
WESTFALL, PA — Located in a space once occupied by a supermarket, the Majestic 7 opened on May 20. Operated by Majestic-Star of Teaneck, New Jersey, the seven-screen theater will be the only theater in a twenty mile radius, featuring wall-to-wall screens, digital projection and “wild purple” carpet.
New, high-back rocking seats, still covered in protective plastic, give off a sort of new-car smell in each auditorium.
The cinema has been under construction for the last six months. Page and partner Tom Ferrie signed a deal in late 2010 to take on the $3 million project, which includes full digital 3-D projection and sound and wall-to-wall screens.

While we straighten out this technical snafu, we are restoring comments on the “old” (current) site. All of these comments will be imported into the new site so post away! Adding theaters, though, is still disabled as we need to maintain one theater database…

New Cinema Treasures Site Update
Hey, everyone.
Due to a very last minute and annoying technical problem, we are unable to launch the new site today.
It’s especially frustrating since we’ve spent hundreds of hours working on the new site and making it as bug-free as possible. This last issue, though, appeared just this morning and it’s a show stopper.
Since this issue is still unresolved, we had to delay our launch for today. Once we’re able to find a solution to this problem, we’ll post another update with a revised launch schedule.
Until then, thanks for your patience. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on.
