I’m the director of a film festival in San Francisco and one of our long term goals is to purchase a theater for second-run, indie, classic, and community access screenings. We’re currently sharing space in a South of Market art gallery/multimedia gallery, but we’re looking to expand our focus.

Located at 325 East 10th street in Pittsburg, California. In its present condition, the theater stands solid. It’s been gutted and floors have been leveled, a couple of windows have been opened, a big roll up door was added to one of the theater’s exterior walls, and a new roof was installed about 4 years ago. The balcony and other features are still intact.
The property sits in 3 downtown lots, about 12500 square feet in total. The building’s commercial zoning allows for many different uses; including movie theater, play house, etc. Storefronts have been converted into offices and living quarters. The asking price is $875,000. If interested contact, please contact Jaime F. Penuela at .

In May 1966, a lady theater proprietor named, we think, Mrs. Glasgow, purchased three of our family portraits from our family home in Scotland which we were forced to sell to pay death duties. She said she was going to put them in her theater in, we think, California. Somehow, by 1980, they were stored in someone’s garage.

According to this article in the Nashville City Paper, the Belcourt Theatre has been sold to the Belcourt YES! group, which has plans to restore the theater and run it as a mixed-use facility offering films, theater performances, and live music. The Belcourt YES! group has been operating the theater since June 2000, when it took over from a grassroots effort known as ‘Save the Belcourt’.

I am very interested in owning and operating a classic movie theater in the Midwest or South. I have been searching for some time, but I’ve yet to find the right place. Please let me know if there’s something special out there that I’ve missed.

The Garden Theater, which opened on January 14, 1918 in Charleston, South Carolina, is for sale. When it opened, one entered across a tile floor, under a huge ornate arch, into a garden of hanging flower baskets, caged singing canaries, trellises and crystal chandeliers.
