Century-old theater in Shepherdstown for sale

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Opera House Theater built in 1909, is for sale. It was refurbished by the current owners in the early 90’s to add modern amenities while still preserving the classic appeal.

The theater at 131 W. German St., which specializes in independent and foreign films, has been one of Shepherdstown’s most popular attractions from the day it opened in 1992. It draws patrons from across the Tri-State region and beyond.

    Grauman’s Chinese for sale

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Citing difficulties making a profit on their single screen theaters, Mann Theatres is attempting to unload the famous Grauman’s Chinese as well as the Criterion in Santa Monica. This comes after they recently closed the Mann Festival and announced they would not be extending the leases on their other Westwood locations.

Amid seismic shifts in local exhibition, Warner Bros. and Viacom are stepping up efforts to unload L.A.-area movie theaters piecemeal, including the iconic Grauman’s Chinese in Hollywood. Such an exit would conclude an initially profitable but more recently tedious tenure of ownership for the studio companies.

Execs at Cinemerica — the co-venture of Warners and Paramount-parent Viacom that operates Mann Theatres — believe the timing is right to make a concerted run at selling one or more of its Mann venues. Two are considered especially attractive: the fabled Grauman’s on Hollywood Boulevard and the Criterion Theatre on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade.

10+ 1927 Art Deco theater seats for sale!

I have purchased in the past at auction 10+ Art Deco 1920’s theater seats. They were from a theater in Manchester, MO., possibly the Manchester Cinema. I think the newspaper wrap with them is from the 90’s, could be when they were originally purchased. I do have pics to send just email. I may and try to put them somewhere(on line) and put a link.

    12+ seats
17+ backs (6 just have stuffing back, they are not cushioned with springs. Maybe were for a tight end space)
14 aisle ends (some have the lights figures some are non-light ends)
13+ divider supports (some solid, some see-thru)

    Savoy for sale

MONTPELIER, VT — A classic gem, the single-screen Savoy Theater is up for sale.

The Savoy Theater, a single-screen movie theater known for its dedication to arts, local and independent films, is up for sale. The asking price is $112,000.

Rick Winston, who founded the unique, brick-walled theater in 1980, and his wife and co-owner Andrea Serota said they have been struggling, particularly in the last two years, to keep the theater financially afloat. They said they decided to sell the theater in hopes a new buyer might bring new energy and ideas to rejuvenate the movie house.

Wanted for purchase or lease: Philadelphia area theater

I have always wanted to own and operate a small, 1 or 2 screen, theater and have recently started my search for properties in/around the Philadelphia area. Ideally, I would love to find a property with a seller who is willing to teach me the ropes. Although my preference is to purchase a theater, I am open to looking at lease agreements.

Please contact me if you know of any theaters for sale in the Philadelphia area.

    Thanks!
