Golden Age Revival Theater opens in Westwood

WESTWOOD, NJ — After more than a year of anticipation, the new repertory Rosebud Theater opened last week.

Owner Ray Walsh says of the people of Westwood, “Not only does this town have some real charm, but we were really overwhelmed by the support we received from the people here.”

Walsh, a retired scout for the New York Giants, says that he received countless e-mails and positive comments encouraging his business venture. “It was really nice to see that people welcomed us here,” he says of The Rosebud.

Visitors to The Rosebud will almost feel as though they’ve stepped into a time machine, as old-time movie posters adorn the walls and a quaint, revival ambience permeates the theater. When asked why he chose Chinatown as the first film to open the theater, he said, “Chinatown is perhaps the best example of ‘film noir’, a genre which peaked in the 1950’s. It is always included as one of the top motion pictures of all-time by the IMBd website and the American Film Institute. I picked it for these reasons and also because it’s mid-way between Hollywood’s Golden Age and the present—something for everyone.”

The Rosebud will be open Wednesday through Saturday with shows Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 pm; and Friday and Saturday evenings at 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm. As its name suggests, The Rosebud focuses on Hollywood classics and will feature movies from genres from film noir to musicals, with a touch of the surprising as well.
