VASSAR, MI — The owner of the Vassar Theatre, Tim O'Brien, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home on March 19 at age 52. His funeral was held on March 24 at the theatre.

O'Brien bought the theater in 1990 and restored it to its former glory. He successfully held a Kickstater campaign to install a digital projector to keep the theatre open. As a result of his death, the theatre is closed until further notice.

Surviving is his girlfriend, Jean Esckelson, an adopted sister, Patricia Uebbing, several close friends and countless loyal customers.
