Paramount does away with film

Hinted at for years but finally a reality, Paramount Pictures has become the first major studio to stop distributing 35mm film. The timeline for phasing it out has never been set in stone so the move caught some by surprise. The other studios will eventually follow though so the next phase of the digital transition has begun.

Paramount is still shipping 35mm prints to foreign countries. No studio can afford to lose the lucrative foreign boxoffice revenue. Many foreign countries still use 35mm film so the studios must continue shipping them 35mm prints.
It’s going to be grueling for cinemas still using 35mm.
It’s only a matter of time, imho, before other film companies start to really follow suit. Here’s keeping my fingers crossed for smaller, independent non-profit movie theatres and hoping they stay afloat and in business, whether they convert to digital projection or not.
Paramount sent out a letter advising INTERSTELLAR would be available in 35mm.
