Going Attractions drive-in documentary is completed

After years in the making, the documentary about the rise, fall and rise again of drive-ins in the U.S. is done. Coinciding with the 80th Anniversary of the drive-in, the film will now be able to easily be shown on actual drive-ins due to the help of digital projection.

The first Drive-in I went to was the Warwick Drive-In Theatre in Warwick, NY. Now that I live in Tampa, FL, I’ve yet to visit the Fun-Lan, which is very close to my apt. The lot also serves as a flea market on the weekends. I’m originally from NJ and I’m a little disappointed that they didn’t visit more NJ locations, being that there is only one functioning drive-in in the state (the Delsea), and that the first drive-in theater was opened in NJ in 1933.
Looks like a great DVD. I’ll be ordering a few. We went to the ENCINA DI in Santa Cruz CA. Now a parking lot. I remember I got lost going to the candy stand on a foggy night and they had to flash my name on the screen for my parents to pick me up. We only have 2 left in the SF Bay Area, one in Concord CA and the other in San Jose both owned by the Syufy brothers. They use the West Wind name. As soon as they get a good offer for the land they will be gone. The old Syufy family is only interested in land money these days. They just tore down the Dome in Pleasant Hill CA for a mall. Does anyone have any information or photos of the many new Drive In’s that have opened up in the last few years?
CAD – I agree with you about lacking NJ Drive-Ins! The only site they visited was the White Horse DI, where the remaining artifact is the giant white horse high in the sky. If they were there, they easily could have driven to the site of the original (nothing remaining) or several others that have more noticeable remains (Pennsauken, Super 130, Circus in Hammonton, Absecon, etc.).
Regardless, it is a great thing that they have made this movie and documented drive-ins. I’m looking forward to watching it.
