NEW YORK, NY — 42nd Street ain’t what it used to be. Whether it’s better or worse is up to you to decide. John A. Mozzer has shared some photos that bring you back to the mid 80’s.
Go here to check out more of these gems from June 28, 1986.

Great pics brings back memories.
I must say, as seedy as some say it was, I like the old 42nd street a lot better. Great photos. Wish there were some of the old State, National, Embassy and Rivoli.
This was one of the best times in the movie biz in NYC . I had just been transferred to the Warner Twin ( the Strand) on the opening week of Cobra we ran 24 hours straight .
Wow… Thanks for sharing this. Nice set of shots of the Duece, just as I remember it. Actually, towards the tail end of the few years I spent going to movies in the area. By ‘86, I was an infrequent visitor – and then, rarely for a flick, anymore. But these are great!
I enjoyed that I would also love to see the ones from the 50s with those great double bills Inn those days the marquees were a work of art perfectly centered and well maintained. I used to love to walk down 42nd from B'way to 8th to admire them
What a treasure trove. We’ve got to get these copied onto each theater’s photo page.
I have switched to using SmugMug for my 1980s-90s photos. This set of photos is now here.
