PETOSKEY, MI — Without a downtown cinema since the Gaslight closed ten years ago, Petoskey is looking at the feasibility of bringing one back. With help from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Rural Business Enterprise Grants program, they’re researching whether their robust downtown along with potential additional parking could support a theater.

It is so sad that the efforts to save the Gaslight came to nothing. Now, ten years after its demolition (for a retail/condo complex that was never built), the city is now looking at building a new theater. I am puzzled though that a grant from the Agriculture Department could be used to support this effort.
