Bigger and louder: New cinemas strive for an enhanced movie experience

Film Journal International has taken a look at recent advancements in cinema around. Selecting some of the most recent installations from projection to sound and screen, they aim to give a comprehensive look at the latest in technology.

Back in the 1950’s and 1960’s Hollywood and theatre owners sought to battle the little black box in the living room with sheer size. And such was born the likes of Cinerama, 70MM and Stereo Sound.
Once again the cycle repeats …. with Hollywood and theatre owners deperate to battle home thetres and downloadable devices. Did not last the first time. No reason to think it will last this time either.
Only this time muviebuf, its much more expensive. At least the equipment they installed in the 50’s and 60’s lasted for all these years. This digital crap they’re putting in is outdated within a few months, and you either have to pay for upgrades, or buy new.
So louder sound is supposed to make a movie better how?
louder sound will hurt your ears, not to mention digital projection can be blurrier when you sit close to the screen…this is why 35mm as well as 70mm film still looks better than digital.
Oh how you hit the nail on the head moviebuff82. Give that man a cigar.
