ASBURY PARK, NJ — This spring, The ShowRoom will continue its partnership with Brookdale Community College to present “Passport Cinema: Dinner and a Movie,” a community-driven partnership offering free movie nights to students and local residents. The first free movie screening is scheduled for Monday, February 27. Prior to each movie, The Culinary Education Center, near the Asbury Park High School on Drury Lane, will offer a prix-fixe dinner starting at 5:30 p.m.

On February 27, a free screening of “Italian for Beginners” will be followed by a post-film discussion with Alex Idavoy, assistant professor at Brookdale Community College. Under the direction of Lone Sherfig, the film follows six Danish students as they enroll in a beginner’s Italian class in hopes of finding romance. Devoid of special effects and the use of technology, it is the first film to be directed by a woman that follows the purist principles of the Dogma 95 filmmaking movement.

“Passport Cinema” will continue one Monday a month through April. The dinner, film and post-film discussion series encourages thought-provoking community interaction through film. Following “Italian for Beginners”, films to be screened in “Spring Passport Cinema” include “Sin Nombre” on March 26 and “Circumstance” on April 16.

“Spring Passport Cinema” is a community outreach partnership between The ShowRoom and Brookdale Community College to heighten film culture in the surrounding area. Each film screening is free to the public; five dollars from every prix fixe dinner will be donated to the Elaine Baran Scholarship Fund.
